Love that our little community has such an active pride organization! Our festival started as a picnic and keeps growing!

Transgender flag made from photos of galaxies
Happy Pride month, all! Way back in 2018 I made these galaxy pride flags. They were shared many thousands of times, featured on Vice, and even made their way onto book covers and into video games.
Here are the original ones I created (in no particular order!) so Bluesky can have them too. 💙

Pink and purple graphic with white text that reads, "Trans liberation is tied to all of our freedoms" with a white ACLU logo.
Free expression is a hallmark of the First Amendment.
All our rights are in jeopardy when trans peoples’ freedom to exist is undermined.

If you say you love freedom but you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom. It’s privilege.

Rep. Laurel Libby, R-Auburn, recently used my second-place finish in the 1,600-meter run, and that of my teammate in the 800-meter run, to malign Soren Stark-Chessa, the trans-identified athlete who finished first.
One of the reasons I chose to run cross-country and track is the community: Teammates cheering each other on, athletes from different schools coming together, and the fact that personal improvement is valued as much as, if not more than, the place we finish.
Last Friday, I ran the fastest 1,600-meter race I have ever run in middle school or high school track and earned varsity status by my school’s standards. I am extremely proud of the effort I put into the race and the time that I achieved. The fact that someone else finished in front of me didn’t diminish the happiness I felt after finishing that race. I don’t feel like first place was taken from me. Instead, I feel like a happy day was turned ugly by a bully who is using children to make political points.
We are all just kids trying to make our way through high school. Participating in sports is the highlight of high school for some kids. No one was harmed by Soren’s participation in the girls’ track meet, but we are all harmed by the hateful rhetoric of bullies, like Rep. Libby, who want to take sports away from some kids just because of who they are.

Bold purple text reads, “ACTION ALERT: FIGHT FOR TRANS TEXANS”. A purple banner beneath has white text reading, “TEXANS: CALL OR EMAIL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE TODAY AND DEMAND THAT THEY VOTE NO ON HB 229 AND HB 778”. Hearts in the style of the trans flag decorate the graphic.
🚨 ACTION ALERT: A trans erasure/sex redefinition bill (HB 229) and a detransition bill (HB 778) will hit the Texas House floor TOMORROW, Friday, 5/9. If you can only do one thing today, RESHARE THIS POST. If you are a Texas resident, call or email your representative NOW at pflag.org/takeaction

Well, we protested so... What Now? Arrow pointing to next image
Protests are an opportunity to connect and organize in unity. Now that this one has passed, continue carrying out the message "Be Someone" in your day to day life. It is the many small acts that make the biggest impact. (arrow pointing to the next image.
Be Someone who helps their neighbors. Be someone who steps out of their comfort zone. Be someone who promotes literacy and learning. Be someone who protects immigrant rights. Be someone who protects trans rights. Be someone who volunteers in their community. Just Be Someone (arrow pointing to next image)
You think this is one of Houston's iconic art pieces for no reason? (image of Be Someone graffiti art on train overpass on I59) We have the fight in us; that persistence and hustle flowing through us is built for this. We all have our own passions and knowledge, so let's work together to find those solutions that our current administration refuses to do.
#50501Houston What Now? you may ask. The answer is always to be there for the others in community. Volunteer, check on your neighbor, take care of yourself. And prepare for next time.
