One of the more bizarre sculptures Iβve ever encountered is a 2.5 metre statue of an oyster that stands proudly on the waterfront at Lau Fau Shan.

Gunung Sindoro, Central Java, Indonesia
So I set off up the slopes of Gunung Sindoro before first light, wondering if I could get to the top before the clouds rolled in.

Most often called the Ruin of St Paul's, it is actually called Mater Dei. St Paul's was the name of the college of which it was a part. It was built between 1602 and 1640, and destroyed by fire in 1835.

Hiking glaciers alone is not something sensible people should do. Ah, but I was young and foolish then. This is SnΓ¦fellsjokul in Iceland circa 1985. At the time I thought this was the top. Google has since persuaded me that it wasnβt.

It is the complete destination π€£
I camped all over Iceland for a month back in my youth. Not sure how my old bones would react to that nowadays but I'd give it a couple of nights, for sure
Macau also has 400 years of Portuguese colonial history and great food. It's a fascinating place and just a 30-40 minutes by bus to Hong Kong.
π
Absolutely, Venice too. That's just across the road from London and concealed by Paris. Hollywood is right behind me π€£π€£. An interesting side note is that gambling revenues in Macau are now almost double those in Las Vegas.
Thanks Gabrieleπ

I don't know what Teleguard messenger is. I'm on Instagram @davidsutton_sparkoflight and themangoroad.com but that looks better on your computer than it does on your phone. I also have Facebook but my social media activity is sporadic.
You can see the same things in Macau without getting shot. It also has 400 years of history and Portuguese egg tarts, which Vegas doesn't have.
Yes, it is owned by Stanley Ho's Sociedade de Turismo e DiversΓ΅es de Macau, who also own 18 other casinos in Macau. For years Ho had a monopoly on gaming in Macau but when his license expired in 2001 the government invited other operators. Revenues in Macau are now almost double that of Las Vegas

I met up with ace photo-journalist and old friend Chris Stowers for coffee a few days ago. He was in Hong Kong to promote the second volume of his memoirs, Shoot, Ask ... and Run. Needless to say, I made sure he left with a copy of my book.
