After a federal appeals board barred most detained immigrants from seeking bond, filings challenging their confinement surged in Wisconsin and nationwide. Wisconsin judges have ruled for detainees more than half the time. wisconsinwatch.org/2026/03/wisc... (@wisconsinwatch.org)
In every Republican presidency of my lifetime there's been a recession and a new war in the Middle East.
โNo front-page stories in NYT, WSJ, WaPo. No mention on NBC and CBS Sunday Shows. No stand alone segments on Evening News shows. A death count on par with the OKC bombing is relegated to the back page.โ www.columnblog.com/p/corporate-...
NEW: Over the past year, we've been collecting thousands of financial disclosure documents from across the Trump administration. Now we're making them searchable. Look up names, assets, former employers across 1,500+ Trump appointees and 3,000+ ethics documents.
Texas Tech University recently canceled a speech by third-trimester abortion provider Dr. Shelley Sella because of a Turning Point USA pressure campaign. Hear directly from Texas medical students about how this affects their education and patients' safety at @autonomynews.co:
there are still use cases, which I think is important to acknowledge. itโs still far preferable to email over an encrypted email than, say, Gmail to protect the contents of your comms, even if the to/from isnโt. (alsoโppl should know that enabling message previews unencrypts key data)
I continue to be gobsmacked at 1) how common this formulation is 2) how antisemitic and generally bigoted it is 3) and how for all the talk of anti-semitism this is never cited as an example even though itโs quite literally the original incarnation.
ICE has arrested and detained a Nashville journalist who reported stories critical of ICE. Sheโs married to a U.S. citizen and has been seeking asylum here after fleeing death threats in Colombia because of her journalism there.
Theyโve already sent her to Louisiana.
New from 404 Media: Proton Mail, the privacy-focused email service, gave authorities data that let the FBI unmask an anonymous 'Stop Cop City' protester. It was payment data linked to the anonymous email account. From that, FBI ID'd them, then tracked their movements www.404media.co/proton-mail-...
is the โgolden age of travelโ when backpackers get locked up in concentration camps for weeks on end just because? or when tourism plummets as a result? or when Black and Brown Americans feel compelled to carry their papers with them when traveling from their home to the grocery store?
Moral of the story? Congressional oversight matters. Congress should do it more.
An investigation from Transitics has discovered something highly alarming: Indiana AG Todd Rokita has been making a list of trans people. Following in Kansasโ footsteps, heโs preparing to revoke trans peopleโs documents by declaring them โfalsified records.โ

I wrote about how the US and Israel carried out an attack on an Iranian girls school on par with the OKC bombing and US media relegated it to a back page story. No stand alone evening news segments, no front page stories, it made A11 in the NYT then everyone moved on.
The secretary of Miami-Dade Countyโs GOP started a group chat for conservative students โ and within 3 weeks, it was filled with over 400 instances of the N-word, Nazi rhetoric and writings of "dozens of ways of violently killing Black people"
They are torturing and killing people in our concentration camps, and I wish more people were actively bothered by that
On top of the concentration camps, kidnapping, and murders, the news now reports ICE is buying microwave tech to kill the car engines of first amendment legal observers. And Democrats are still not even asking to claw back the 2025 budget increases.
it is also worth noting that with a salary of ~$175k she had the means to sue. many told us we should after his transparently discriminatory firing โฆ but with what money? and with what time/energy?
meanwhile my partner got fired after his bosses refused his WFH accomodationโฆ. good on this worker for suing.
A majority of people on Medicaid who self-identify as having a disability are not enrolled through the disability pathway.ย That means that the many people with Medicaid with a disability may be forced to work 80 hours per month or lose their Medicaid - which includesย many people with ME/CFS and Long COVID. โOf Medicaid enrollees ages 19-64 with a disability, about one third (32%) receive disability income (SSI or SSDI) leaving nearly seven in ten (68%) adults on Medicaid with a disability who do not receive disability income.โ KFF โIn 2023, only 10.1% of Medicaid enrollees (roughly 9.5 million people) qualified for Medicaid through a disability-related pathway.โ KFF

I also learned from interviewing @edwincpark.bsky.social that there's no guarantee that people who get Medicaid through SSI will be exempt from work requirements either. Like, these are people who have gone through a lot of paperwork for the government to see them as disabled enough.
Update: American Marines were among the security personnel who opened fire on protesters by the US Consulate in Karachi, Pakistan on Sunday, where 10 people were killed.
Imagine serving as a Marine and then being injured at home, on purpose, by a sitting Senator while exercising your constitutionally-protected rights.
"Emmanuel Damas, 56, died while in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, after struggling to receive timely medical care for a worsening toothache," according to Chandler City Councilwoman Christine Ellis.
"Nobody should die from a toothache."

This is one of those Bari amplifies a systemic problem in MANY legacy newsrooms. I've long advocated for a "history for journalists" course not just in j-schools, but in newsrooms. Another blatant recent example post Oct 7th? I had editors tell me that no history that happened before then mattered.
Iโve unmasked a white nationalist fight club in my city: Montreal.
After weeks of work (with help!), I can reveal an Olympian as a member of the Frontenac Active Club โ one who, unbeknownst to the owners, brought them to a local gym for training and propaganda photos.
Hereโs my investigation:
This sh*t doesnโt happen in other rich countries that are actual democracies, where people just vote, all major parties refrain from lying about mass voter fraud & constant attempts at mass disenfranchisement, & everyoneโs vote just gets cast & counted. We donโt have to live this way, either.
