After surviving two climate crises in the time since I became a parent in 2020 amidst the global pandemic, I just genuinely get distraught thinking about our lack of significant action to disrupt the current trajectory.
Ugh, the 2025 Global Carbon Budget Report just dropped and it makes me literally sick to my stomach to think that fossil fuels are projected to hit a record 38.1 billion metric tons this year. At this pace, the world is roughly four years from breaching the 1.5°C warming threshold.

If these subsidies aren't extended now, people will have to pay premiums that will increase by 114%, 200%, or even more. Rural healthcare providers will start shutting doors again as they burden the cost of un(der)insured working class populations. We’ve seen this happen before in WNC.
The gov shutdown officially ended on Wed., Nov. 12. While we can find relief knowing millions of Americans will once again start receiving paychecks & food benefits, the agreement fails to address the central issue of 22mil. people losing COVID-Era enhanced subsidies for health coverage.
It’s hard for me to understand how folks can convince themselves that money is real or capitalism is a tenable concept given the fact that roughly 1.4 million federal workers have been furloughed or are working without pay. Why do we continue to consent to this social experiment of suffering?

Everytime someone buys from a company on the BDS list with an excuse like “starbucks is closer,” “it’s cheaper,” or “I needed something quick,” I imagine the dissociation they must force on themselves in order to ignore their moral injury. I imagine their spirit weeping, suffocated by convenience.
Ruminating this morning with a friend on the culture of social hierarchy and supremacy as it is replicated in movement spaces, and really feeling hopeful that the collective can shift away from disposability and transactional relationships while we weave this new reality of abundance together.
I don’t want to be confrontational, but I simply can’t be silent and someone has to say the hard things to get folks that are comfortable and well-resourced to rethink their positions.

Feeling tired & sad today as wildfires cruise thru WNC, fueled by flood debris. Wore my MADR shirt to grocery shop & a neighbor stopped to ask me about it, “what does that mean by solidarity not charity?” Our convo was just the pick-me-up I needed. One day at a time, one foot in front of the other.
