the veteran inside-forward who has netted 75 goals in 203 league games for Derby since joining them from Glossop in 1913. It will be remembered that Moore played for Chesterfield Town in the 1916-17 season that ended under the cloud of an illegal payments scandal. 4/4 #CFC100

The reserves beat Hull City’s second string and are top of the southern division of the Midland Combination’s subsidiary tournament, having won 4 and drawn 2 of their 6 games.

The Manager will visit Derby on Wednesday for the purpose of signing Jimmy Moore, 3/4 #CFC100

After that, Rovers were able to protect their lead and extend it in the second half, with goals in the 50th and 80th minutes. It was a generally low-key performance from a side that has seen its promotion hopes evaporate recently. 2/4 #CFC100

Chesterfield’s last five games have ended WLWLW, so it was no surprise that today’s visit to Doncaster put another L on the run. The match was even until the 30th minute when Abbott, in tackling, fell; the ball hit his arm and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. 1/4 #CFC100

Here's your disappointingly regular reminder that it isn't a Panenka; it's a Roseboom.

If only every obituary was a useful as this! Another Victorian Spireite positively identified. William Kirk, centre-fwd to the 1895-6 team. Born 25/9/1872 in Tinsley; died 9/4/1937 in Woodseats. Buried in Abbey Wood Cemetery on 13/4/37. To us from Worksop Town; 14g from 24 Sheffield League games.

March 7th action against Shrewsbury, from 1979. Colin Tartt follows up, but the ball has already been put in the net by Ernie to level the scores after David Tong gave the visitors the lead three minutes earlier. A Rod Fern pen seven minutes after this saw The Spireites earn both points.

After clocking up four straight wins at home, the reserves travelled to Anlaby Road today and lost 1-0 to Hull City Reserves.
Secretary/Manager Harry Parkes has signed a contract to remain until the end of the 1926-7 season, at a salary of Β£364 per annum. 3/3 #CFC100

Sound defending from Mehaffey, Worrall and Jones forced us to wait about an hour before HOPKINSON added a second, running in from the wing to meet a Fisher cross with his head. Fisher and Roseboom worked the chance for COOKSON to add his second on 85. 2/3 #CFC100

Chesterfield’s 3-0 win over New Brighton today was a comfortable as the scoreline suggests. Unchanged for five games, The Spireites went in front on 10 when COOKSON took a ball worked forward by Hopkinson and Whitfield before shooting home. 1/3 #CFC100

I have yet to see one game at the T20 World Cup that would not have been substantially improved by removing the shouty twat on the microphone who is trying to drum up some atmosphere. Fill the stadiums and the atmosphere will look after itself.

Is that the first time since 9/9/2023 (Halifax, 3-2) that our one forward and his sub have scored in the same game? (Grigg and Bonis tonight, Grigg and Quigley then.)

With 7 wins and 2 draws in our last 9 EFL games on March 3rd, optimists will approach the SMH Stadium tonight with a spring in their step. Pessimists will point to our March 3 record before that - lost 8 out of 11 - and believe that bad times are just around the corner. Pick your own narrative!

This day in 1962 saw Roy Poole thrown the no.9 shirt because, no-one else is scoring goals, so why not? The defender scored all our goals in a 4-1 win over - oh, look! Colchester United! 😁Time to stick Malik O-B up top tonight!

2/2 Up comes this. The empty spaces are for the father's name and occupation, so Billy was evidently born out of wedlock. The 1881 census says his parents are George and Hannah; George Marshall married Hannah Perry in West Brom in 1867. This William is our man.

When the usual tactics don't work, it's time to try something different. William Marshall, player in the early 1890s. Born Hill Top, Staffs, around 1867, but not on the BNA indexes. Middle name given as Perry on his marriage certificate, a good clue for his mum's maiden name. Back to the GRO. 1/2

This is dismal. The last away game we won on February 28th was at Castleford Town, in the 1911-12 Midland League. We've lost every one of the seven we've played on that day since then.

Tables we don't mind looking at: away attendances in '25-6: CFC fans present as a percentage of the crowd.

Last season we averaged 1018 away. This season so far: 844.

Worked in the steel industry for most of his life. Alfred passed away in Sheffield in 1978.

What’s that? His trial game? Ah, yes. Played in one "A" team match, which was lost 7-1 at Mansfield Reserves. No wonder the poor chap had to wait a bit longer for his big break. 3/3

Halifax Town and ourselves while playing for Stocksbridge Church and Norton Woodseats. On amateur forms at Sheffield United; Rotherham United eventually took a punt when he was 28 years old and he played 64 times for them in the 3rd (North.) Left Millmoor for Denaby in 1938. 2/3

Another non-first-teamer is identified after a night trawling the BNA. I knew this: Birkhead, goalkeeper, a 1929-30 triallist. He became Alfred Birkhead, born 6/1/1904 on the wild and windy moors above Stocksbridge, according to the 1921 census. Had trials with Rotherham County, 1/3

Chesterfield weren’t bad, but every Crewe player was on his game: they hit the post twice and had a goal disallowed before taking the lead on 77. A second goal ten minutes later sealed the win.
The reserves beat Notts County’s second string 2-1 at Saltergate. 2/3 #CFC100

A 2-0 defeat for Chesterfield at Crewe today means that they cannot overtake Bradford at the top of the Third Division (North) if they win their games in hand. It proved to be too tall an order to win at the Alex, who have lost only twice at home this season. 1/3 #CFC100

The last time we did 6 consecutive games ending WDWDWD was in February and March 2009. We won the next. In November 2014 we reversed the sequence by finishing DWDWDW.

With 14 draws to their name already this season, Chesterfield need only four more to crack a new club record for drawn games in a season.
