Apropos of "nothing," the refrain of "English lacks our pronouns, therefore any loc is compromised" is such a cliched one monolingual Japanese creators trot out when they're disconnected from the process. And as a translator who Gets It, like, it's just not usually a huge creative hurdle day-to-day?

β€œHe does what?”
β€œHe likes to guess their shoe size and orders it for them.”
β€œAnd they don’t fit?”

β€œAnd they wear them anyway?”
β€œYeah. See, that’s how you know how sycophantic they are. It’s symbolism.”
(beat)
β€œEh. We can’t do that. It’s too on the nose.”

At what point would it be less humiliating to just resign and take a lobbying job? Surely it's before this

Nomura no Famicom Trade was a stock trading application for the Japan-only dial-up modem add-on for the Famicom. Through a Nintendo collaboration, the game featured Mario on the information screen, doing a unique little dance.

can't help but feel that national donors and even the weirdo Wisconsin billionaire who funded the right-wing candidate in the 2023 race feel demoralized after two back-to-back double-digit losses

i know that refusing to rule out literally anything is Trump's style but you'd think this would be the one thing even he'd know would be a bad idea to publicly propose

For about half of 2016 I took Capital Corridor in CA nearly every weekend and it involved none of these problems. Same with the PDX -> SEA route, I don't think these people have actually taken trains, even the supposedly bad ones

A year long investigation into the Hyperloop found …

β€œThe truth was far simpler, far dumber, and far more prescient: Musk and his lieutenants truly had no idea what they were doing.”

I'm so glad she wrote this. The portrayal of her in this series is, to me, indefensible. She deserves an apology from the filmmakers and FX.

And if you hear yourself saying you portrayed a real person (who's alive!) in a particular way to manipulate your audience, please go improve.

Yup--I just listened to the hearing, and the Judge took the parties by surprise by indicating he'd issue such a judgment. USG counsel asked for some time to brief the merits and the judge responded: "There are no merits." [3]

I have spent two weeks debugging an issue where a dozen-line integration test silently fails with no errors from the tested service that calls multiple other services. AI would be of negative help with this kind of nightmare

If anyone is friends with any Georgian air traffic controllers, buy them a nice bottle of wine. As guardians of pretty much the only narrow gap still available between Europe and Asia that avoids both Iran, the Gulf, Ukraine and Russia, they are under some substantial pressure.
