Apart from the moral repugnance, this is so revealing of how ignorant conservatives are about poverty. Poor people have to think about money ALL THE TIME. They worry constantly about what everything costs, how to substitute one purchase for another, what bill can be put off until payday, etc.

There's something deeply obscene and broken about the fact that Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth are bombing elementary schools in an illegal war of aggression, and there's still a sense among the opposition that it has to be explained in terms of gas prices in order to get American voters to care.

I recall receiving an email from an aggrieved reader about the poor grammar in one of the books we published.
I asked the reader to be more specific than "poor grammar," and I got an earful about sentences beginning with "And" or "But" or concluding with prepositions.
