Alright, here's a genuine challenge - this Torchic, Lahnae. First of all she has a beak, so that's a hurdle already.
She's normally boisterous and her expressions are LOUD. But instead, why not try a look of muted anguish? The face of someone *wanting* to speak but not wanting to burden others.

Figured it out *kinda* from a lot of fiddling. The game doesn't have a whole lot of visual feedback as to who you're focused on in the menu, especially when you're all clumped together, and I had to figure out that a character being stunlocked in combat means they cant swap their weapon with someone
"Hey Secret of Mana, I love you but do you mind explaining how the fuck your wacky inventory/menu system works?"
"Cartridge space doesn't grow on trees, kid. Read the manual! You...DO have the manual, right? Like you kept it from the box, right?"
