An old picture book depicting two children hugging each other, sitting by a tree in the woods in the night. There are two robins and a hare circling the children menacingly.
🌲 Found in our stacks - "The Babes in the Wood" by R.Caldecott, 1881.
Brief summary: cursed children are terrorised by woodland creatures, while a giant robin drops the fattest beat of the 1800s.

Exeter Children’s Library is getting a big makeover! 🛠️
Including a brand-new sensory area, floating mezzanine & activities for older children, it's going to be better than ever thanks to funding from the Clore Duffield Foundation.
Work should be completed in July ready for the summer holidays.

Authors receive a payment every time you borrow a book, audiobook or ebook from libraries in 35 countries. Those countries include the UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Germany to name but a few. Borrowing a book helps the author’s pocket as well as yours.
What are we all reading this weekend then? I’m on The Diviners by Libba Bray, about a supernatural serial killer in 1920s New York. Perfect for a dark and stormy day!

There’s nothing like the joy of doing a school visit & asking the kids “how much do you think it costs to get a library card & borrow books?” They all guess different amounts of money & then there’s an excited gasp when we get to “it’s free!!”

A quick update on the one-off events we have at Exeter Library for the remainder of the year. All the bands have been selected for the 🎸Battle of the Bands 🥁 so we're ready for a killer night of music. There's also some great Christmas events and our ever popular Brick & Booze.
