I wondered that. They have been together now all winter so I think there is a chance
Not in detail. I will have to do that. I do now have some idea of what most of their calls mean and in what situation they use them π
Cold and very windy but at least dry and this morning's walk. Highlights: Raven, Buzzards, Lapwings, Skylarks, Siskins, Redwings, Fieldfares, Goosanders, Great White Egrets, Tufted Ducks, Meadow Pipits & it's always a great sight and sound to hear the Rooks come out of roost! #ukbirding
My Raven News: Just Chips today. He was very friendly flying in to see me on my walk 4 times, once tumbling in! He again cached the egg and took the suet away. Interestingly he dropped the suet in a puddle and then picked it up again and flew off with it!
Interesting. Thanks Dave. I did read it was more common in the south but is moving north
Thanks. I will take a look! I did read that it was more common in the south but moving north π
That's a good tuft on that Tuftie!!
Yes Hopefully it is Florence!π
A tiny micro on an egg box: Leek Moth

Mottled Grey.
Mottled Grey
Yesterday while checking round the traps I found a 2nd NFY: Mottled Grey. Today 9/38 including this NFG: Leek Moth(Acrolepiopsis assectella) (Obsβd it! but when I checked in the book it did look good for it π) Itβs hard to believe such a small delicate moth was flying last night! #teammoth
Siskin, one of lots of finches on the ground eating fallen seeds
Redpoll on the ground
Nuthatch on a fallen log
Pink-footed Geese flying over
It really was a bit of a miserable walk this morning but the birds did their best to brighten it! Highlights: Siskins, Redpolls, Fieldfares, Redwings, Song Thrushes, Nuthatch, Chiffchaffs, Cetti's, Treecreeper, Wigeon, Pochard, Goosanders, Buzzards, Kestrel, Pink-footed Geese. #ukbirding
Yes, just a bit bigger and bulkier
Todayβs Raven News: Horrible weather. Just 2 short visits from Chips, & surprisingly a brief visit by Gravy. Chips fed her some egg before she flew away. Sheβs an experienced breeder so I assume she knows what sheβs doing. I checked: eggs can be left unattended for short periods.
Oh no. The moth gods are fickle souls. They will hopefully be on your side soon βΊοΈ
Thanks Thomas. Itβs one I had a few time last year but I was thinking I was going to miss out this year as I was late to the party!

Good luck Ruth!
Shorter walks today but lots of birds. There were lots of raptors on patch this aft: Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Buzzards & a Peregrine. I was alerted to the Peregrine when Chips (Raven!) suddenly called and flew. Also still lots of Winter Thrushes, Siskins, Chiffchaffs, Cetti's etc! #ukbirding
Todayβs Raven News: I had an appointment so early walk: Chips came for his egg! Had a 2nd walk in afternoon & saw lots of activity: many raptors including Peregrine & Chips spent time flying calling & tumbling I assume announcing territory. He had chats with me between flights!
Shoulder Stripe
Shoulder Stripe on the MV this morning
9/36 in Marbury (VC58) last night. The undoubted highlight was a NFY with this Shoulder Stripe. As people have said before there should be a study, like there is with birds, into how much moth-ing lifts your mood π #teammoth
π Haha!
Sounds amazing. I wonder if it was 2 interlopers and they were defending their nest
Beautiful walk today & the sun was shining! Birding highlights: displaying Lapwings, Kingfishers, Goosanders, Tufted Ducks, Wigeons, Great Crested Grebes, Great White Egret, Grey Wagtail, Siskins, Redpolls, Linnets, Fieldfares, Redwings, Mistle & Song Thrushes, Kestrels, Buzzards #ukbirding
Todayβs Raven News (hope youβre not bored of Ravens yet!) Chips came lots for some egg & suet & a bit of company! He often eats or caches the eggs but mainly takes the suet away, maybe Gravy likes suet best! He obviously thinks about things. You can almost see him thinking π
There are 6 Oak Beauties here!
Beautiful Oak Beauty
5 of the Clouded Drabs not at all drab!
Early Grey
8/80 last night in Marbury (VC58) Nothing new but any traps with 6 Oak Beauties in is an exciting one. Hebrew Characters were the most numerous with 20 also suddenly lots of Clouded Drabs (17) which I donβt find at all drab π Early Grey, Small & Common Quakers, March Moths also! #teammoth
I am!! π
π
Duh! Good luck if you do. I will. I am hoping still for a Yellow Horned, Pine Beauty or a mini mervπ
He is saying thanks for being my friend π
