A close-up of a person wearing teal gloves holding a small metal type punch engraved with an ampersand symbol. In the background, part of the person’s face is softly out of focus.
A bearded man wearing teal gloves uses a green rubber air blower to clean a small metal type punch. He sits at a desk with an open wooden case filled with neatly arranged metal punches, while a computer monitor displaying a magnified image is visible in the background.
🔎 Rare 18th-century punches used to create the original Baskerville typeface have been digitised and released online.
Designers, historians and the wider public now have the opportunity to study the physical tools that shaped modern typography.

If you embroider or cross-stitch & are interested in mutual aid, I think that I'm going to organize an event where folks can sell their work and donate a percentage of proceeds to a couple of local mutual aid groups. May 16 or 23. I need to find a location here in NYC. I'll circle back with details.

Thrilled to see this Review Essay nearing publication in postmedieval. In 'Whiteness made visible: Recent Work in Premodern Critical Race Studies', I review four fascinating books on whiteness in art history, fiction, and drama, ranging from the medieval period to the twenty-first century.

A pink and purple background with an image of a medieval manuscript in the centre, containing an illustration of a closed castle. A woman at the top of the castle looks down at a man outside the castle. A modern additional image of a ramp has been placed at the doors of the castle, extending out of the medieval border of the illustration.
Delighted to share the beautiful cover for our volume, Towards An Accessible Academy: Perspectives from Disabled Medievalists, edited by Alexandra R. A. Lee, E. R. P. Champion, and me.
Coming soon from @mip-medpub.bsky.social for the Premodern Transgressive Literatures series ✨

Israel murdered this beautiful soul. Remember Fatima Hassona. Watch and spread the film "Put your soul on your hand and walk". And never stop fighting the mass murdering death machine that is the Israeli state.
She was 25.

UCU Campaign for GTAs
Calling for Fair Pay, Equal Pay, Secure Pay
Fair pay: To eliminate the endemic overworking of GTAs expected to perform tasks not within those stipulated as their responsibility in their employment contracts – particularly, but not limited to, extra administrative work and contributions to the creation of course content.
Equal pay: To raise allocated preparation time to a reasonable level which truly represents the work that GTAs must devote to delivering pedagogically sound teaching. There should be transparency of workload models for GTAs, e.g. preparation time, marking time and end discrepancies in pay rates and time allocations for different tasks across colleges.
Secure pay: To ensure all GTAs are issued initially with two-year contracts, as per the University’s policy.
🚨 Support our Graduate Teaching Assistants!
This year has seen a spate of cuts in real terms to GTA pay and conditions across many departments that left an already underpaid and overworked workforce at breaking point.
