Several remnants of the US JASSM cruise missile were posted by Iranian media yesterday, such as these pictures.

A manufacturing date on a single component does not mean the missile was assembled at that time. This just determines the oldest possible a munition could be. You can put a component made in 2000 in a missile you assemble in 2005.
Good reminder these munitions have toxic metals (yellow).
This Patriot remnant was posted with the claim it was manufactured in 2000, and a 26 year old missile.
The 2000 date, and information in the red box is related to the classification of the component, not the production dates.

Since this article and thread, remnants of more munitions, and false claims have continued to appear. Short thread of some I saw yesterday:

This article references the
@munitionsportal.bsky.social quite a bit. Many of the munitions being used have been used in prior conflicts covered by the OSMP.
The OSMP has launched their collection page with munitions from this war.

A video is going around falsely claiming to be from a Iranian drone that hit Cyprus. This is actually reused footage from Ukraine, as a close up photo of the same remnant was published in an article in 2024.

As the war enters it's fourth day, more remnants and misinformation continues to be posted online. There's a couple that didn't make it into the article.
Israel used 2,000+ bombs in the first 30 hours of the Iran war; the US struck 1,000+ targets in the first 24 hours. Iran responded with at least 390 missiles and 830 drones in the first two days. Bellingcat has tracked the munitions used by all sides so far: www.bellingcat.com/news/2026/03...

DoD has posted several photos of munitions being loading onto aircraft participating in strikes again Iran, including JSOWs, 500-pound bombs, 2,000-pound 'bunker busters', and several Tomahawks being launched by the USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. These photos were taken February 28 according to DVIDS.

With @evidentmedia.org and Hind Hassan we detail the part American-made munitions play in Israelβs operations in Gaza. We collected data on the use of three munitions produced solely in the US and found hospitals, schools, homes and civilian infrastructure were hit. www.youtube.com/shorts/5J8M9...

In 2024 drone incursions at the US-Mexico border were estimated at over 1,000 a month without airspace closures.
Bodies being "disintegrated" by explosions is very real, but it's from the pressure created, not any heat or thermal effects. There's also plenty evidence of this in videos from Gaza and other conflict zones, but this AJ article gets the fundamental science entirely wrong.
https://armscontrol.eu/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/thermobaric-weapons.pdf
This quote about "obliterating matter" isn't unique to thermobaric explosives, it's the same effect from the shock wave.
The shock wave from thermobaric explosions typically last longer, but don't reach as high of a peak pressure as conventional explosives.
Here's a screenshot from Rachel Lance's great article about what explosions do to a human body here:
www.wired.com/story/russia...
This AJ article is wrong about explosions and explosives in several fundamental ways. This "phenomenon" the article mentions is due to the shock wave caused by the explosions, not due to the heat generated.

Typically 500m distances are given in Lebanon. 100m is much lower than several different standards or measurements for a safe distance of a 2,000 pound bomb, including a USMC "danger close" standard.

MK-84 2,000-pound bomb with a JDAM kit hitting a building in Gaza after an IDF notice.
Bellingcat recently asked the IDF about the lack of evacuation distances in public evacuation notices in Gaza, which are included in notices in Lebanon, so interesting to see a 100m distance in the notice here.
