Tim Wonnacott pronouncing Yorkshire place names is a crime against humanity. The posh are deeply tedious at times
Yes!
I have no patience at all these days for silly old duffers. I suspect a certain former prime minister ruined that character type for me.
It’s funny when it’s like that. Sometimes I sigh when I hit a long paragraph…
Ha ha! Well, I have really enjoyed reading The Once and Future King. There are some new books I really ought to read while the iron’s hot though.
I’ll get back in the groove, I know. Maybe. Ha! Who knows, after July?
Me at work, during guided reading, urging bright kids to read books that offer them something new and challenging. Me at home, just comfort reading, and at a ludicrously glacial pace too.
Great to hear this burst of sanity and moral clarity from @georgemonbiot.bsky.social last night.
Great to hear the audience's applause as well (the first of the programme). Right wing press and politicians are seriously out of step with the British people on this one.
Cover reveal for this book by a friend - out later this year, I've had a chance to take a sneak preview and it is GREAT.

Ha — okay, there are plenty of bad reviews to choose from too.
Well, I was always the one defending Timothée Chalamet, but all right, I give in, I’m not defending that fuckwittery.
Just one shirt sleeve rolled up and a bar of soap handy. No long rubber gloves in the 30s!

Ah, fuck it. Never mind, I’ll leave it there.
I was won over the moment I heard Christian Bake pay homage in an interview to “King Karloff”.
Now I’m overhyping it for myself. Need to read a bad review…
It looks as though The Bride! might well be what I’ve been hoping for in a Frankenstein film for most of my life, because it starts from the premise that James Whale’s Universal films are at least as significant as Mary Shelley’s brilliant novel.
AKA Stairway to Heaven.
A Matter of Life and Death.
Utterly cynical performative cruelty.
Oh… Roger Lewis mentions a proposed Ulysses with Peter Sellers as Bloom; so you’ve added another virtual adaptation to haunt me.
Also Powell & Pressburger's Ulysses
The brass neck!
Now I’m actually in a school, I’m going with “a vet in All Creatures Great and Small”, in hopes that some of them know about that from the Channel 5 adaptation. I do wish I had one of Peter Davison’s snazzy zip-up cardigans from the BBC series…
My wife — who gets that kind of response from pensioners too — was delighted when Bernard Cribbins said her outfit was a work of art (she was working as a runner for CBeebies).
