/ camp who maintain both positions largely do so independently:
1. IIJA etc is bad! ineffective!
2. China's industrial policy strategy is super effective and unfair!
then you'd expect some nuanced analysis of the policy differences that makes effective and the other not. but this is not what we get
it's possible to bemoan bidenomics industrial policy (IIJA, IRA, CHIPS) and simultaneously raising alarm about the ["unfair"] efficacy of state-driven chinese industrial policy while remaining ideologically consistent through some level of nuance. but it seems like most such commentators in this /

the point around amazon subsidized prime video primarily as a customer retention tool (before their ads segment got real momentum) will find new life if rufus gains wider use: "amzn subsidizing free GPT4-level chat w/ excess cloud capacity in order to drive in-app activity & user retention" etc
somewhere along the way as i was playing with different prompts for rufus i realized that AMZN hosting a free chatbot natively in their app (with no limitations on topics unrelated to amazon products) would be in their best interest bc it incentivizes in-app behavior
on rufus (amazon's ai chatbot):
- seems like they intentionally inoculated it against "ignore previous instructions" and will refuse to respond
- "i want to buy books related to [topic], can you tell me more about [adjacent topics]" works well for just treating rufus like a free chatbot
obv not an endorsement and call-to-action, just an observation
the woke tribe has no sense of tactics. they don't like "crypto" and the internet personality known as "[REDACTED]" but don't think to instantiate an [REDACTED] market that could address two birds with one stone. that is, achieve the objectives of:
1. [REDACT]ing [REDACTED]
and/or
2. harming crypto
bessent policy outline from may of this year — highly critical of CHIPS but his point about TSMC's AZ plant seems anachronistic now

re: ben thompson's point that china's great firewall acted as extremely effective de facto [digital] trade policy (limiting imports of digital information/media) and [digital] industrial policy (encouraging domestic development of tech giants) — is he the first to make this point?
