Not a ton of people give it its flowers, but one of the more recent games in the series “Trails Through Daybreak” did the action combat to turn based even before Metaphor came out. (And does it better imo)
Bless!!! I was the one who wrote in today about Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter. Definitely think you will fall in love with its characters and writing. The worldbuilding is top notch, and only gets better the deeper into the games you go.
