Unfortunately, a lot of people can't walk away from it. I need it to make a living, unless I want to work at a gas station or drive 30+ min to get a low paying job in the nearest city. Our only access to non-propaganda news is the internet. This list goes on forever.

This isn't one of those cases though, we can easily excise the problems in the internet as it stands, we just need the political will to do so. They haven't altered the structure yet, you can still operate just fine in most of the ways that matter.

The internet is still our space of greatest freedom if you care to stay private, but we have to protect it. It is one thing to avoid meta/google/microsoft but it is a completely different thing to have OS level spyware mandated.

Oh, certainly, but they have always been higher level attacks. Legislating OS features is the most sweeping attack that I have ever seen though. The only way I can see it getting worse is requiring spy hardware in all devices or something.
