So far the war in Iran has cost an estimated $5.5 billion.
That's roughly $1 billion per day.
$41,666,667 per hour.
$11,574 per second.
People do not want this.
They want a living wage. They want healthcare. They want to be able to afford a home. They want their basic needs met.
U.S. forces likely bombed an Iranian elementary school on Feb. 28 during an operation targeting a nearby military base, a New York Times analysis suggests. It is the deadliest known episode of civilian casualties since the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran — and no side has yet taken responsibility.
Azerbaijan just closed airspace "in the south of the country" per Bloomberg macro squawk. Losing that link would have a massive impact on Europe-Asia (incl the Indian subcontinent and ANZ) air travel.
The girls’ school in Iran, where 165 people were killed by an apparent US-Israeli attack, was hit with two strikes, with the second missile killing sheltering survivors, two first responders and the parent of a slain child have told Middle East Eye.
NOEM: I would disagree with the judge
CROCKETT: I'm sure you would, but can you tell me whether or not you have a law degree?
NOEM: A what?
CROCKETT: A law degree
NOEM: No I do no-
CROCKETT: Okay
Democrats say Donald Trump has spiked prices, taken massive bribes, started a war, and killed American civilians. These swing voters say that’s missing the point.
Thom Tillis is threatening to use procedural moves to shut down every Senate committe he's involved in if Kristi Noem does not respond to his inquiry
This is something the Democrats could have done at any point during the last 14 months, but chose not to
If you haven’t been paying attention to this particularly noxious pocket of X, it’s a bunch of self-described “founders,” CEOs, investors, dropshippers, scammers, and reactionary propagandists who have, like all gentrifiers, discovered a more expensive, worse version of something normal people used to do mostly for free. Or, in this case, out of some sense of civic or professional duty. The analysts, experts, and journalists that populated Twitter and made it an unparalleled resource during breaking news cycles have largely been replaced by capitalist strivers, who pay to get paid to post. They make money directly from X’s Creator program, regardless of whether or not their posts are accurate. A report from WIRED found that the bulk of the misinformation about the conflict with Iran this weekend came from monetized Verified accounts. And many of these same users — and, of course, a bunch of Trump admin insiders — now also race to prediction markets like Kalshi and Polymarket to cash in on whatever new event has moved us closer to a nuclear apocalypse.
Sounds about right. www.garbageday.email/p/sorry-babe...

Having not even bothered to try to sell this war in advance they are now cooking up the most laughable ex post justifications imaginable.
We wanted to save Iranians from the bad guys.
So we killed the bad guys.
This turned out to be unfortunate, because our plan was, after saving the Iranians from the bad guys, to pick one of the bad guys to be *our* bad guy and to leave him in charge.
a slurring Trump in new video on American troops killed by Iran: “Sadly, there will likely be more before it ends. That's the way it is. Likely be more.“
WSJ cites sources who say US Central Command is using Claude "for intelligence assessments, target identification and simulating battle scenarios."
To my knowledge — besides everything else wrong with this — plain old Claude is not trained to do any of those things.

I think the thing with predicting a quagmire is so far the Trump doctrine is to destabilize a country, declare victory, and then get the hell out.
I can’t emphasise leading w/ empathy for civilians *everywhere* on a day like today enough.
The first casualty here in the UAE, where I live, is an Asian civilian at a residential building.
Many Ukrainians, Palestinians, Iraqis, Syrians, Sudanese & other war-traumatised people live here.

To anyone with an ounce of humanity, this is horrific.
Appalling: ICE and CBP contracted for $144 million in weaponry and accessories in Trump's first year, per data obtained by Sen Adam Schiff.
For ICE it's a fourfold increase, much of it for military-style weapons. A heavily armed secret police force. 1/

Former ICE agent: My first day training new cadets, I received secretive orders to teach them to violate the Constitution by entering homes without a warrant. I watched ICE cut classes that teach our legal system, firearms training, use of force, lawful arrests, and the limits of officers' authority
".. Man, those who said the trade uncertainty was in the rear-view window" may need to re-think, because now it appears to be right "through the windshield."

One of the first things we were taught at Quantico was that there is never a moment in which you are not representing the Bureau; but, then again, we earned our place there, and weren’t granted its directorship as a sinecure for partisan malfeasance and a willingness to disregard the constitution.
Here's another angle of the police attack on students protesting ICE in Pennsylvania

The Bucks County District Attorney's Office in Pennsylvania is opening an investigation.
Top Democratic officials who worked on the party's secret autopsy of the 2024 election concluded that Kamala Harris lost significant support bc of the Biden administration's instance on backing the genocide in Gaza, Axios has learned.

Katyal: "I was able to go to court - the son of immigrants-- & say on behalf of small businesses, 'Hey, this president is acting illegally.' I was able to present my case, have them ask really hard questions, & at the end of it they voted & we won. That is something extraordinary about this country"
NEW: Natasha Korecki at NBC reports that in light of the SCOTUS tariff ruling, Gov. Pritzker sent President Donald Trump an invoice of $8.6 billion.
