Can you let me know if someone gets it for you as I'd also love a copy? I had the 2021 codebook and foolishly never contemplated that the 2023 codebook would just disappear

We have the microdata back to 1995 thank goodness. I have a copy of the 2021 Codebook as well (Excel version)

Are First-Time Home Buyers Facing Desperate Times? - Liberty Street Economics A look at how first-time home buyers are faring in a challenging housing market using data from the New York Fedโ€™s Consumer Credit Panel (CCP).

Great short article by NY Fed researcher Donghoon Lee: "FTBs [first-time home buyers] are proving to be more resilient than some have depicted and in a better position than many might have feared."

Professional remodelers broadly reported an uptick in project activity as 2024 closed out. Looking ahead they expect large project activity to recover (we estimate $50B is deferred). Tariffs throw a wrench in this. Higher pricing for lumber, appliances, hardware, etc. could stall progress.

Economists expect at least mid-single digit increases in pricing for major products

Tariff exposure is high for major household appliances, esp. from China, Mexico

Tariff exposure is high for major household appliances, esp. from China, Mexico

Thinking of buying a major household appliance? With the tariff announcement, might be good to act soon...

73% of small electrical appliances are imported (mainly China)

44% of our major household appliances are imported (led by Mexico, China)

Expect a measurable impact on pricing.

Expect already squeezed housing affordability to worsen with a rise in construction costs across multiple categories - appliances, wood products, hardware, glass, plumbing fixtures.

A report coming out later today from @jbrec.bsky.social details the projected rise in sawmill wood product pricing from this action. Wood products will be one of the most impacted product categories, only behind appliances. Hardware, glass, and plumbing fixtures will also be heavily impacted.

Here's some data backing up this point - this is going to be bad news for sawmill wood product pricing in the US bsky.app/profile/elaj...

Think 25% #tariffs on Canada and Mexico won't impact our housing market? Think again.

To illustrate: 31% of all sawmill wood products used in the US are imported, with a massive share from Canada.

A new report coming out later today from @jbrec.bsky.social details price increases we can expect.
