U.S. Reviews Biden
Asylum Cases After Shooting
A Homeland Security Department spokeswoman accused the previous administration of failing to vet asylum applicants "on a massive scale."
The man identified as the suspect was said to have worked with the C.I.A. and fled Afghanistan in 2021 under Operation Allies Welcome, a program born after the sudden fall of the Afghan government in 2021, when the United States withdrew its forces and the o Taliban took control of the country. The suspect received asylum from the U.S. government in April, according to three people with knowledge of the case who were not authorized to speak publicly.
“Biden Asylum Cases” is NYT’s framing for a story pegged to a man who got asylum 3 months into the Trump administration

the USA built a system of higher education so good that smart/rich people from across the world came here, spending billions to learn here, subsidizing education for Americans while spending money to live in our cities and towns. our government arbitrarily decided we should stop doing that

COVID Contrarians Are Wrong About Sweden
Trying to ‘let it rip’ in early 2020 was a disaster.
The conventional wisdom swing on non-pharmaceutical measures during COVID has tilted toward "doing nothing, like Sweden did, was good." @ryanlcooper.com puts this through the ringer: prospect.org/health/2025-...

stop saying “this looks like it was made by AI” or “was this written by chatgpt?!” when you don’t like something.
devaluing human effort like that sucks.
I don’t care if it’s bad cgi or a formulaic script. if it’s made by a human you show it some fucking respect and just say it’s dogshit.

Q: "What do you think is the biggest threat in cybersecurity right now? Is it post-quantum computing? Is it AI?"

A cartoon by Cori6 compares two scenarios. The top panel, labeled "PROJECT 1938," shows a group of people, including adults and children, disembarking from a train with a ramp, reminiscent of historical deportations. The bottom panel, labeled "PROJECT 2025," depicts a similar group of people disembarking from an airplane using a mobile staircase, suggesting a modern deportation scenario. The cartoon is signed "Cori6" in the bottom right corner.
We’re honestly on a fast timeline to exactly this.

Every thing you do, no matter how small, to remind people that the wannabe dictators are actually sad, scared, fallible little boys is helpful. The more we laugh at them, the less fearsome they are and the easier it is to wrest power back from them.
Also? These messages are effing hilarious.

Rising global temperatures can influence the timing of events, such as when crops are ready to plant and harvest and when flowers and trees bloom.
One example is the timing of the peak cherry tree blossom in Kyoto, Japan, where records stretch back to the ninth century — that’s over 1200 years.
