ArcGIS Online's credit and file storage management system is a mess! The admin tools needed to functionally manage users and content at the university level are garbage (or non existent). Custom Python scripting should not be a requirement for removing users who haven't been at your org in a decade!

A little late update here: A month ago, I was laid off from The Washington Post, along with hundreds of my colleagues.

I’m incredibly proud of the reporting and visual storytelling I’ve done over the past five years, alongside some of the best journalists in the industry.

I'd like to add this info to our AGO Homepage, but other than adding a text block it doesn't seem to really have a good way to share org policies with users.

ArcGIS Online admins (esp academic orgs) I'm looking for examples of AGO home pages or splash screens that display general AGO policies for students and faculty. Things like file storage and credit limits, or what happens to users data/apps when they leave the org etc. #gischat

Checking in on this. I just moved my home 3d printer to work (University Library GIS) to play around with geologic models like this. Would love some of these files to try out!

In a normal world we would not need to flip congress in order to impeach and eject Trump from office.

Yeah, of course. Note that I define "map" pretty broadly so there's a LOT of tangential stuff in here.

I do the same. Pinterest board for design ideas. I grab stuff from all over the place, but once Pinterest learns what you’re looking for you get fed pretty good stuff there.

OMG, I was just looking at this stupid logo today thinking, WTF is this supposed to be! Also in the one that pops up for an ArcGIS Pro update routine, check out the left edge... its not even smooth! Who made this thing?

This map image popped up in my Pinterest feed yesterday, from an old Medium article on Gyres apparently. Neat for it's total lack of any other feature besides currents and yet it still draws a pretty legible map of most of the world. #gischat

Rep. James Talarico On Confronting Christian Nationalism, And Strange Days In The Texas Legislature YouTube video by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Trump’s propaganda czar Brendan Carr and Trump-controlled CBS refused to let Colbert air his interview with James Talarico. You can watch the interview here, and it already has 1.4M views. youtu.be/oiTJ7Pz_59A?...

This the kind of thing I'm guessing he might have have in his mouth...

13.02.2026 22:39 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Would be a small led light in mouth, easy to close lips around. What makes me think he has one is light in his mouth and light on the ground go on/off together a couple times in vid. If that was reflected, there would be one cast at all times from bag reflectors which have to be brighter than teeth.

13.02.2026 22:35 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

If you don't look at his face, just the ground around him at the moments there is a bright spot in his mouth, you can see it's casting light on the ground, just a few blips for a split second. I get what you mean about hot spots in the video from teeth etc. but they can't cast light like that.

#gischat anyone familiar with this project? usmaps.com

There's not a lot of info in the About section, no data sources, no authors or cartographers listed.

Looking for examples of geospatial/mappy tangible art and data visualization stuff. The kind of stuff you'd want to see in the lobby of a crazy futuristic mega corp in the next Bladerunner movie... maybe. Stuff you can touch and interact with, or just hangs on the wall and blows your mind. #gischat

Look what arrived: Just bought two original hand-painted prints from MΓΈns and Stevns Cliffs, Denmark, from 1851. These are photorealistic, made in collaboration by some of the best artists and scientists of the era.

Just add water: 3D printed rotational landslide.

Working on improving these models so the print files can be shared for outreach and teaching.
