If you're familiar with deaf ed in the US, you're probably familiar with *that* 4th grade reading stat. Some cool people (@jmhenner.bsky.social @jascott.bsky.social @lealaholcomb.bsky.social) and myself decided to look through JDSDE and see where and how it appeared. Check us out.
Senators betrayed students, educators, and working families today.
Passing this unconscionable budget is both a political failure and a moral one. This bill will devastate our schools and communitiesβall to finance massive tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy.
Shame.
VP Vance has cast the deciding vote in the Senate to cut Medicaid, take away food assistance, blow up the deficit, and add tax breaks for the wealthiest.
This bill is unpopular because it is wrong.
Congress votes this week, but itβs our voices - and our votes - that will have the final say.
Where can I get a good solid background (not the green ones) I can hang up to use for making videos, especially ASL videos and zooms? I've been just using a wall in my house, but I want to get something better. Recommendations?

a photo grid of dolls with protest t-shirts and signs.
I need everyone on Normal People internet to know that American Girl Doll Instagram is doing doll protests today. There are tiny t-shirts and signs. AND THEN I realized it's a joint protest with the Barbie ppl, where there are EVEN TINIER SIGNS.

That's fair. Thanks!
Now I'm really curious. What parameters do you set for their contribution?
Oh that's an interesting idea. I might need to look into that. Thanks! I need to learn more college appropriate apps. I know lots for elementary age lol
I think Flip was shutdown. I really loved it too.
None of it is a distraction. They want to gut Medicaid + they want to fire federal workers + they want the SAVE act, + the third term.
Whether or not they can get any or all of it is up to us, and that doesn't include sitting around trying to parse out what they "really mean." They're telling us.
Drs. Bloom and Palmer recently published with us a new article exploring the impacts of COVID-19 on deaf college students. Check out this important work here!

If anyone reaches asynchronous online college classes, what tools do you use for student interaction? I really dislike discussion boards and so do the students. I'm teaching a class this summer and looking to do student interactions better. BTW, we will be switching to Canvas.
Besides USDB, does anyone know of a deaf school that has a Portrait of a Graduate or Portrait of a Learner? I'm collecting them for a future project. TIA
You are too kind! Thank you! π€π»
Ok, we're our own thing now.
Great, thanks!
I don't know too much about it but it's a national program that focuses on transition to the workplace. Something like that
