With the WC effectively cancelled in our European fam, finally something to look forward to this summer
PSRM piece by Bayer, Crippa and Genovese on energy transition, financial markets and the Ukraine crisis
It turns out that institutions CAN move energy markets and make their vision more credible at the onset of a shock like a war. Markets are looking for institutions to lead. Not leading is a choice.
If only we had institutions that could choose to act quickly to insulate their people from this pain by announcing a bit weaning project from fossil fuels.
If only we had spent 10+ years talking credibly about the energy transition.
Want to give a special shout out to Danielle smith and Vladimir Putin, i have no idea how you both continue to be so lucky
Add to the file “the Greens leadership may be actually good at politics”
When an enviro authority (eg Noaa) is weakened by a shock (eg Trump) and compliance norms in hard-to-regulate sectors (sea mining) go out of the window, expect public goods to worsen quickly as a function of mining licenses to be quick and easy to access and sell.

Deluded. Labour lost about ten points during the course of the 2024 campaign. A strategic triumph it was not.

The Biden Admin directed hundreds of billions to clean energy/manufacturing.
Did these investments shift public opinion?
We find that these projects are visible but not traceable: People notice nearby investments, but connect them to Governors, not Biden.

oh yes those totally feasible trade sanctions that we already know are unconstitutional and will put down in two to three months
💯. The govt (NB: not all of it) is not doubling down on energy independence<>net zero as hard as it could partly bc it is hard to push for this with a straight face if you‘re also not decommissioning hard from the North Sea, but also bc they are paralyzed by Reform and their anti-net zero campaign.

Oh sure, if that pressures the EU to face itself in the mirror, but then these "sanctions" would need to be credible
bahn bet
allowing betting on anything with public good implications (like trains) is deeply ruinous
È vero che Macron è molto impopolare, ma la Lega è intorno all’11% quindi in un mondo normale di quello che dice Salvini ce me dovrebbe fregare tantomeno.
