if you’re wondering what a whole lot of trans art and stories would look like when there are no cis gatekeepers involved

this festival is SO for you

it’s beautiful, it’s healing, and it’s a joyous celebration of trans people and our art, directly from us and not as seen through a cis filter 🩷

This is a wholly accurate, evidence-based, poetic, and utterly sick burn on NIH/CDC poseur Jay Bhattacharya.

I tip my hat to Dr. Strong.

It’s not just a cold. We wish it were just a cold. We would not keep talking about it if so. Since 2020, doctors, scientists, and millions of people who have had COVID-19 have learned that it can cause permanent damage to multiple organ systems within your body, leave you disabled and unable to do the things you love, and significantly harm your quality of life. A cold cannot disable or kill you the way COVID-19 can.

We know a lot more about prevention than we did back then. We all remember when we thought maybe we’d be ok as long as we were 6 feet away from sick people; that masks worked one way but not the other; and more. But just like with all new viruses and scientific study, we learned more as
there was more time to
study and observe, and we
now know that wearing masks
and keeping cleaner air are key to
protecting ourselves and others. Now that we know better, we can (and should) better protect ourselves and others.

We understand the frustration about vaccines, but they are still extremely important. We all remember when vaccines were first made available, and it would’ve been great if that was the end of the pandemic. It wasn’t. And a lot of people have gotten frustrated and have given up on vaccination. It’s true, the virus that causes COVID-19 changes (which is why, like the annual flu shot, we need to get updated COVID-19 vaccines each year), and the vaccines we have now will not eliminate COVID-19 on their own. But they are still very effective at preventing serious illness and death, so
even though they are not the one quick
solution to the pandemic we all wish they
were, they are still extremely important,
and we should all stay up to date.

This week marked the anniversary of the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve summarized our thoughts a bit below, but tl;dr: Unfortunately, COVID-19 is still with us, & although we may be tired of hearing about it, it’s extremely important to continue to take steps to protect ourselves & others.

It seems that according to NIH/CDC poseur and RFK Jr. coattail-riderJay Bhattacharya, public health is only done right if it’s done by an economist.

Understandable that many trans people feel this way

I spent the last year contemplating my own mortality

But I realized I rather die fighting than hiding or fleeing

It's just that my form of fighting is to be a dorky trans Bill Nye, and to use my science communicator network to get a big audience

I know mainstream media sucks

But there are still journalists doing good work, smaller magazines, podcasts, etc

I frequently give talks to audiences at biotech companies and universities

I've seen that changing minds is possible, even if it's hard and slow

Being trans forces you to self-actualise in a way many people just don't. Once you've interrogated something so fundamental in yourself as your sex and gender, you start seeing yourself and your relationship to the world differently, and embracing yourself becomes much easier

The trans NB employee fired by Chili's for being trans worked at their Rosemont, IL location. For all the furries out there, this is across I-90 from MFF

Y'all might want to avoid Chili's & Maggiano's, especially when MFF rolls around later in the year. I'm sure there's better places to eat out at

Iowa actively removed protections and legalized the ability to explicitly discriminate against trans people in housing, employment, education, and healthcare. Now, they're ensuring that cities can't protect trans people discrimination either.

Reynolds signs Iowa law barring local trans civil rights protections City and county civil rights commissions may no longer protect Iowans from gender identity-based discrimination under a law signed by Gov. Reynolds.

The first state in the US to remove statutory protections for an entire class, gender identity, has just enacted a bill preventing local municipalities from having their own protections for trans people.
