she really looked like she was playing and having fun!
It's the stories of men who loved men, women who loved women, and people who loved without regard to gender -- including some really famous people you wouldnβt expect, like Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi, and Eleanor Roosevelt! @lernerbooks.bsky.social

looking forward to finally seeing this! The freedom to read is so important, and diverse #kidlit is crucial to creating a better, kinder, more just world...
agreed. They's so afraid of actual science, and empathy, and kindness... which should remind us how powerful it is when we share our pronouns, our gender (as distinct from our body), our books, and our belief in a community made stronger by our diversity
agree - great stuff here for #kidlit folks & readers, and a way to help out in this moment of manufactured, mean-spirited chaos...

Earlier this month I was in NYC, in a location from my upcoming A DIFFERENT KIND OF ENEMY, the sequel in my gay teen action adventure romance series that's an homage & critique of James Bond movies. #kidlit #queerjoy #ya
congrats! that's a great review, and the book sounds awesome
*WE* save us -- yes!
totally blushing at "queer YA icon" -- and very excited for this cover reveal for the gay teen action adventure romance sequel to "A Different Kind of Brave" -- "A Different Kind of Enemy" --thank you @lgbtqreads.bsky.social #kidlit
find your zone - cheering you on! #KidLitChat
Thanks to you, @gregpincus.bsky.social and @bonnieadamson.com for holding the space for us all to be IN community togehter! #KidLitChat for the win!
I do the 8am writing club - much more doable for me (especially with virtual/remote work.)
I think the "perfect" amount of time is probably different for everyone. For me, I have no internal resistance to 12 minutes. (It doesn't feel daunting and I don't make up excuses about how I don't have 12 minutes.) I can almost always find 12 minutes in my day. #KidLitChat
that's good advice - I try to start every day with at least 12 min of me being a writer (a.k.a. writing), and then I feel like a writer with a day job, rather than a day job worker who also writes occassionally... (I do love my day job, but writing #kidlit is the work of my heart.) #KidLitChat
I try to do my (hopefully) creative writing before my day job starts in the morning... That's helped a lot. #KidLitChat
Very kind of you, Laura. BANANA MENORAH had a long gestation period... The real-life inspiration was 1997, draft 1 manuscript was Dec 2021, Sold in 2023, Published Nov 2025. So satisfying -- & I'm proud of the two-dad representation in a Hanukah picture book about creativity! #KidLitChat
which one, Debbie? That's so cool! #kidlitchat
If I agree with two very smart people, that's smart by association, surely... #kidlitchat
thanks - I actually dug one out of the linen closet last night and put it out in my work area as a reminder... It must have taken her months and months to complete it!
I have a lot of guiding words/phrases for 2026... thanks for letting me share!
"Defiant Joy" - Facing all the manufactured chaos and mean-spirited selfishness of so many in power, being joyful IS resistance. They want all folks who aren't them afraid and hidden away and the answer is NO. We're here & proud & can be allies to each other! #weneeddiversebooks #kidlitchat 3/3
"Steadfast Gratitude" - how amazing that I get to write and have books published and that I can do this work to change the world to be kinder, better, & more empathetic one reader and one heart at a time! #kidlitchat 2/3
"Steady progress" - my grandmother did elaborate needlepoints, creating them stitch by stitch, like pixels making up an image, and I think that's a great metaphor for writing a little bit (sometimes just 12 min) as many days this year as I can to add up to a new YA novel! #kidlitchat 1/3
Hey! #kidlitchat tonight 1/6/2026! It's like a new year's resolution come true (be in community more)! Join me and @gregpincus.bsky.social and @bonnieadamson.com and, well, the #kidlit community!
maybe we can get kids/teens to be into the "reading party" idea of reading independently in a group setting, where they can talk about what they're reading around structures time where they're actually reading what they want to read...
definitely my happy place... but sometimes I'll talk on the phone and miss out on the whole meditation aspect (and brainstorming aspect) of the time in nature. Want to do more story-focused walks in 2026
yes, the "best of" lists are hard. They're all so subjective, and while it's great to have a book on one, it's challenging to not focus on the ones that didn't include your (okay, my) books! I try to remember I only need 3 good things about each book, and everything beyond that is extra.
I hear you, Jo. I was thinking that #kidlitchat on Tuesday was more substantive than the general #kidlit mega feed I usually look at, and wondered how we get that sense of community back... hence, the idea to be less about "me" and more about "us" in my sharing here on bluesky. #Grateful
