"The Creature in the Woods" poem by Sarah Steinbacher is a rhyming 8-line poem that describes a scary hidden creature in the woods that readers can assume is actually a cat. The illustrations by Christopher Nielsen show a friendly black cat in a wooded nighttime scene. There is also a frog on a stump, a lizard in a tin can, and a pair of eyes looking out of a tree hollow.
