Where does the word β€˜soccer’ come from? While 'soccer' is used to differentiate between two popular sports in America, it originated at a prestigious British university

I did not know this: β€œSoccer” originated in 19th c. England to differentiate association football (soccer) from rugby football (rugger). Fascinating.

β€œAnyone who pretends that soccer is purely an Americanism and football always has been the term used in England is simply incorrect.”

The History Behind Canadian Boycotts of American Whiskey A global marketplace has shaped the U.S. whiskey industry for a century, even as it brands itself distinctly American.

So in my spare time when I’m not talking about refugee policy, I talk about (and drink) whiskey. I’m happy to have now turned that pastime into something vaguely academic. Super proud of this op-ed on the history of American identity, global politics, and whiskey.
