This is a victory for the health and quality of life of people across the City who live near industrial zones, especially residents in Hazelwood who testified about existing environmental problems from living next to heavy industry, and advocated for the bill's passage to prevent further harm.

image of press release reading: Construction to Begin on the Panther Hollow Bridge in Oakland
Pittsburgh, PA โ€“ After being closed since October 2024, crews are beginning to prepare the Panther Hollow Bridge in Oakland for construction. Mayor Corey Oโ€™Connor and the Department of Mobility and Infrastructure (DOMI) have announced that the bridge repair contractor has begun installing safety infrastructure and will be starting repairs in the next two weeks.

This week, contractors are installing a work platform under the bridge that will prevent debris from falling below. Repairs will begin over the next couple of weeks and will include truss retrofits, drainage system improvements, miscellaneous repairs and general maintenance. Construction is expected to go through August 2026.

The current detour for vehicles will remain in place throughout construction, but there will be bicycle and pedestrian access across and under the bridge, except as necessary to move equipment and materials.
