This is such fuel for the 2027 session fire. These feckless Dems just continue to fumble the bag and these groups are keeping all the receipts
Get out and do something

Wonderful crowd and lots of fun conversations at Bike Happy Hour tonight. Thx everyone for coming out!
This is a wild story. So glad Dave is OK and we all owe a huge debt to his riding and life partner Tia Sherry for acting fast and saving his life!

It's a massive political liability for bicycling in Portland that we have so much new bikeway infrastructure and not enough people actually riding in it.
Folks like Rob are coalescing around an idea that could encourage folks to get on their bikes.
This plan is gaining momentum and I fully expect backers to be in front of the line for PCEF funding at the next opportunity.
I don't want to jinx it. But this is good news and it appears PBOT has turned the ship in a new direction.

Almost three years of meeting every week. Iβve met so many folks and gotten to know others much better. IRL FTW.
I like that they nuke accounts like that. I think creating confusion sucks. In this era of AI and lack of media literacy itβs the last thing we need. Find other ways to be funny.
I disagree. It doesnβt make sense. Elon Musk is a piece of shit and X sucks. Anyone with a moral compass would never support that site. I left 35,000 followers!
Of course not. Because youβre a rich entitled white privileged jerk who runs stops signs and doesnβt pay taxes π€£. /s
I think itβs indefensible and unacceptable for any city govt agency to use that site.
Say a prayer for PBOT staff going to a meeting w these tenants tonight.
TIL there's a fake ODOT account w a totally legit handle.
Serves ODOT right. If they weren't still wasting time on X and building a presence here, they might have been able to claim it.
Thanks Kath.
Was planning to go to thisβ¦..
But then my son (a freshman whoβs played JV all year) got called up to play w Roosevelt varsity team in 1st round of state basketball playoffs tonight! π
One of the architects of the bill, Senator Kate Lieber, acknowledged anger from opposing voices. She said folks should channel that into helping defeat the "no gas tax" ballot measure, which blames for creating ODOT's $288 million budget hole.

not sure. But keep in mind that none of the money is cutting existing projects or services technically since it is money that is available and set aside by the legislature, but unobligated.
Iannarone was hired shortly after her bid for Portland mayor in 2020.

The bill, SB 1601 (-3), has passed committee 9-0. It reallocates funding from popular ODOT programs to backfill ODOT operations and maintenance budget.
Here's more background

"This budget does not impact service for Amtrak. That was something that we were very, very cautious in making sure that it did not do." - Kate Lieber, state senator
"I'm testifying remotely because I couldn't get work off on such short notice. I didn't expect you to defund Amtrak and Safe Routes to School on a Tuesday morning with hours of notice." - Jordan Lewis in testimony at OR Leg just now

or to fund transit
Iβll try to learn as much as I can about all this in the coming days. For now hereβs the basic gist, a link to a more complete report on it (thx @oregoncapitalchronicle.com!) and a link to the bill and tomorrowβs meeting/vote. β¬οΈβ¬οΈβ¬οΈ
I need to spend more time to figure things out. But politics, man.
Whatβs even more maddening about this is the bill (up for a hearing Tuesday at 9am) takes Bike Tax funding ($15 on all new bikes) and puts it toward highway operations/maintenance (and away from path projects).
