Thank you so much to @helenhayes.bsky.social for hosting a #WorldBookDay debate in Westminster Hall yesterday!

She brilliantly outlined the benefits of reading for pleasure and how it can support bonding and attachment between a child and their caregiver. (1/4)

15 young people spoke directly to decisionmakers about the realities of the education and SEND system, and what must change.

With around 30 MPs, parliamentary staff and civil servants in the room, including @helenhayes.bsky.social and @munirawilson.bsky.social, their voices were truly heard.

I was honoured to join the Windrush Foundation over the weekend to celebrate the legacy of local Windrush pioneer Sam King MBE, the driving force behind Windrush Day.

It was a privilege to celebrate his amazing life and work preserving the Windrush Generation's history and heritage.

Rest in power.

A screenshot of a Parliamentary written question to the Department for Transport, answered on 1st December. Helen Hayes MP asked the Secretary of State for Transport if she will take steps to ensure the recall of diesel vehicles found to use defeat devices.

Simon Lightwood MP answered:

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency’s Market Surveillance Unit (MSU) is investigating cases of possible non-compliant diesel emissions in cars and vans. The investigations aim to ensure anyβ€―non-compliance found is fixed as soon as reasonably possible, working together with manufacturers to achieve real-world impacts on air quality.

Where an investigation into the emissions has identified emissions that do not meet the required standard, the MSU will work with the manufacturer to implement improvement plans and, where necessary, recall affected vehicles.

We're glad to have it confirmed by @simonlightwood.org.uk that the Market Surveillance Unit will recall vehicles where necessary.

On the sixth anniversary of the Fishmongers’ Hall terror attack, we remember Saskia Jones & Jack Merritt who tragically lost their lives.

They will remain in our thoughts, as will our emergency services & the Londoners who bravely put themselves in danger that day to help others.

Reading for pleasure – MPs launch new inquiry to explore how to keep joy of reading alive - Committees - UK Parliament Amid a worrying decline in the number of children reading for pleasure, the Education Committee has launched a new inquiry to understand how reading can be nurtured, and what its benefits are.

We are delighted to hear that the Education Select Committee, chaired by @helenhayes.bsky.social, have launched an inquiry to explore how to keep the joy of reading alive.

We believe this starts in the earliest years of childhood. 🧡
