There wasn't really that much wrong with them! I reseated the connector on both, and they seem to be playing fine :) , i'm still going to give them both a good clean and perhaps a retrobrite treatment!

Thanks! I've seen some vids of people removing the connector and giving it a good old scrub with some isopropyl and a toothbrush. Is that a good option?
