I believe CD was originally targeting early 1993 but got delayed many times cos the game was still a total mess and required a ton of debugging for the various time zones. It had the longest dev-cycle of all the classic games, including Sonic 3&K!

You can tell how much better Sonic is doing these days by the sheer number of games I’ve been willing to buy this gen compared to the previous lol. If the next mainline title is genuinely heat I’d be willing to call this a full-on renaissance.

Trivia: In my logo, only the “i” is lowercase. It represents a tiny “love” (pronounced [aɪ] in Japanese) just starting to bloom between Elliot and Claris — a small love story. 私が作ったこのロゴ、「i」だけが小文字ですね？ これは、芽生え始めた「小さな"愛"」を意味しているのです。

For sure. Sonic music has been aiming to be cutting-edge from literally day one so it feels really off for throwback soundtracks to almost define themselves by limitations lol.

Sonic Gems Collection is sincerely one of my all-time favourite Sonic soundtracks. THIS is a 90s nostalgic throwback done exactly right for this series; a perfect next step from the soundscapes of CD, 3D Blast, Sonic R and the OVA. Hataya never misses 👌
