Someone who is not Trump has offered him this word, whose use for a military sortie is much too obscure to be part of his layman’s vocabulary.
The idea of an excursion is more commonly frivolous, a jaunt, an outing, sightseeing.
Trump has seized upon it to imply a short-term commitment.
