We wanted to survey Gen Z Republicans but struggled with low response rates. So we set up a Discord server called "Hitler Was Right," and quickly found ourselves with a wide pool of subjects to interview.

claiming Platner is leading the party left when he's the classic late to the party stand yelling by the door guest requires a dedication to propaganda or a hatred of reality so profound that it should be classified as a pathology

Let’s talk about Graham Platner’s Big Lie, finally. In 2009, at the height of the Gulf War, the Marines barred him from active duty. Platner claims it was his forearm tattoos. But his one forbidden tattoo was the Nazi symbol on his chest. He knew - and he left the Marines rather than give it up. 1/

Platner has said he regrets those comments, which is good as far as it goes. it still seems like maybe better to nominate someone who doesn't have to apologize for saying shit like that?

Correction. Orwell never said this. He did however, warn that: "political language... is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.” (That's Politics and the English Language, one of my favorite essays)

Broad claims about gender and behavior fall apart when studies include ethnically diverse samples Behavioral economics relies heavily on studies of Western, educated people. A recent analysis provides evidence that ignoring racial diversity within the United States has led to flawed generalization...

"The research suggests that generalizations about human behavior are often flawed because they rely on samples composed largely of White individuals."

Nearly eight years ago, when I began reporting on the "working homeless," it was treated as an edge case, a tragedy at the margins.

That fiction has collapsed.

Housing insecurity is now an ever-widening sinkhole, swallowing not only the poor and working class but entire swaths of the middle class.

The phrase β€œevery conservative influencer in the business” tells you everything you need to know.

The entire modern conservative movement descends from snake oil salesmen and prosperity gospel revival tent preachers.

It’s nothing more than a con, and that’s all it will ever be.

Media Matters analyzed a year of NYT coverage of anti-trans bills and found that 66% of the time the paper didn't quote a trans person. Further, it found that the paper often quoted right wing sources without mentioning their histories of anti-trans rhetoric.
So "right-wing rag" is pretty accurate.

On January 2, the day after the woman’s arrest, the ACLU of Kentucky flagged the exception in a local news story and suggested someone might have made a mistake, perhaps unfamiliar with the intricacies of the statute. β€œI would caution people against taking what is in the [police] report as gospel,” the organization’s communications director, Angela Cooper, said. β€œNo individual officer can be expected to know all of the ins and outs of the law, and just because a charge is written in a report does not necessarily mean that that’s what the court’s going to do.”
As it turns out, police here had some helpβ€”but not the useful kind. On January 5, I reached out to a Kentucky State Police public information officer, asking about the exception language. He eventually told me that police had discussed the investigation with Commonwealth Attorney Miranda King, a Democrat. King nevertheless presented the first-degree fetal homicide charge to a grand jury in an expedited, direct indictment on January 6.

The grand jury approved the charges, but King dismissed the fetal homicide charge one day later and announced at the same time she’d added a charge of concealing the birth of an infant instead. (Concealment statutes date to the late 17th century as a way to criminalize women for having children out of wedlock.) The state police officer did not respond to my question about the homicide charge until after King had dismissed it.

The Kentucky State Police knew this was a wrongful charge before the prosecutor got an expedited indictmentβ€”they knew because I emailed them the exception language in the fetal homicide statute and asked for comment.

Prosecutors Keep Charging Women Who Have Abortions For Crimes They Did Not Commit Kentucky’s fetal homicide law does not apply to people who end their own pregnancies. This woman got charged anyway.

Lot going on but: A Kentucky prosecutor admitted to not reading the law closely before charging a woman with fetal homicide after an abortion

"When we looked at it for the grand jury, we took a more intense look at it, and we realized we were unable to prove it." Only dropped charge post-indictment

The real story is that foreign govts try to "interfere" all the time. In 2020 and 2024 we had mechanisms to catch them, call them out, & mitigate damage. Now, those mechanims are gone & the Trump admin would prefer to exploit "foreign interference" to justify a federal take-over of elections.
