This isn’t just a climate issue. It’s a justice issue. Airport expansion threatens Indigenous + communal lands in Mexico. Pollution rises. Militarisation rises. Communities are pushed out. Meanwhile, the same elites burning the most fuel claim to “bring people together.” 7/8
FIFA is already spinning “sustainability.” Regulators already ruled the claim of a “carbon neutral” World Cup was misleading, and now they're doing it again.
They’re leaning on offsets & PR slogans again, a marketing fairytale to hide the aviation boom they’re fuelling. 6/8
And then, the private jets. We expect a surge, like in Qatar: airports turned into playgrounds for elites, sponsors & VIPs.
Private jets pollute 10x more per passenger than commercial flights.
This is climate violence dressed up as prestige, while communities suffer. 5/8
In Mexico, airport expansion means displacement, militarised control and environmental destruction in communities already battling gentrification and pollution. 4/8
The 2026 tournament spans vast distances across the US, Mexico and Canada, with almost no sustainable long-distance transport. Fans, teams, media: all forced into planes. 3/8
