Ah, sorry to hear but agreed. I mentioned those two things in my original post because I was passionate about them growing up, I just didn't get encouraged at the time then.

I find them fascinating and spent ages reading loads and loads about them when I was growing up. Just didn't have that voice that said - hey, you can do this for a job you know.

I think it's fair to say, I'm doing a lot of thinking weighing up what I want to do in the future. Career change? On the cards.

Maybe I should have gone down the archaelogist or volcanologist route.

Oh, it's all relative! Being a fan doesn't mean enjoying everything a band does, I don't think that's actually possible. I certainly pin it more to yeah, appreciating experimentation for itself.

I think it's great fun that a band can have such a range in what they do. Sure, might be some things I like less, but the experimentation is great and the hits certainly are that.

Yep. A lot of useful skills come from figuring out research, but also the bits of friction that AI 'smooths' over are really important for meaningful learning. We're going to have a lot of people with no skills or knowledge.

It's depressing that's at uni too, where you're there to learn new skills and knowledge.

Genuinely won't be surprised if this turns out to be another 'dark age' because of how much people are abdicating to AI.

I'm still recovering from the mental damage of hearing colleagues gleefully talk in a meeting about how great AI is because they don't have to think about things.

I kinda feel that things aren't very FA focused these days, but also this place has moved away from it's early day approach of post it all one one.
