Ayup. Here, it was snowing Tuesday, then was almost 80, thunderstorms and tornados and of the week, and upcoming snow again this next week, then back to the 70s. Midwest is the best 🤓

Erm. I like either for different reasons. Left is easier to see roads and such, right has better visibility of properties which can make it easier to get around based on footpaths (in my limited experience). So, both? 🤷‍♂️

Yup, they’re nice units, so in this case, I think it’s the right mix of “does what I need”, “easy enough for our builders to incorporate into the build”, and “worst case in the future if someone doesn’t want it, it just becomes a cabinet”. 🤓

With theirs being Kensa I’m assuming a water source heat pump w/ a skin tank etc as if it’s a pond loop w/ a Shoebox or EVO, where we’re just air source for simplicity at the cost of some COP/efficiency. Vision is ~3.1-3.2, where I’d bet Kensa water source is prolly COP >4.

Basically it’s what you’d find in a hotel room under the window, just spun sideways and mounted higher on the wall between the saloon and bathroom, since that’s center in the boat.

This is just going to dump warm or cold air into the saloon. Not going to duct thru the boat or anything complicated. If the weather is terrible, we let the solar panels do the work to keep the boat more habitable than just ‘open a window and hope for a breeze’ & don’t deal with a portable AC.

I mean, it’s literally just gonna be bolted to a wall inside a pretty cabinet, and behind it will be a smallish false cavity so the factory standard “right angle” side discharge fixture can be used? 🤷‍♂️ Add a little drain line for any condensate and plug up 230V and boom, it’s installed 😆

We’re going with an inboard cabinet heat pump à la PowrMatic Vision; crossways in a cabinet in the saloon with the ducts thru the cabin walls up high.

I use my iPad constantly for most ‘browsing/email/messaging’ but go to a real machine (Mac mini) for writing emails, serious research with large data sheets & manuals that I’m
comparing info between, etc. Holding an iPad & using my index finger also threatens my elbows which are fragile from RSI ❤️‍🩹

Yup, but it’ll just be a “oh thank whatever it has a keyboard that isn’t some sort of wonky accessory” for me. I hate Bluetooth portable keyboards and folios for iPads etc. I know an iPad has all the horsepower I need, just a form factor thing (plus not holding the thing).

This is prolly what I’ll get for the narrowboat. Big enough to use, small enough to stay out of the way, cheap enough to not worry about & just keep everything in iCloud anyway.

Even in many of our city centers it still isn’t. We have many “grocery deserts” where it’s impossible for folks to get even the most basic items or any unprepared food, and have lost things like hardware stores, corner shops, etc.

Ayup. So I can’t stress how much I wish places in the 🇺🇸 were walkable (and I try to vote accordingly!) but from the “person on the ground” level it’s not as simple as “🇺🇸 too lazy to walk” when often it’s “🇺🇸 may have never seen a space it was *safe* to walk” 🙃

This is a 55MPH road in both directions, no crosswalks, no stop lights for long distances, no bike lanes, and no sidewalks (pavements). In some areas on this road, there’s a 15’ steep drop on each side immediately past the asphalt and there’s no wide emergency lane as shown in this particular spot.

Saw friends repost a reply from Reddit with an 🇺🇸 asking if people in 🇬🇧 actually walk that much (30 min walk mentioned in original comment by 🇬🇧). For context here’s a current pic of the *only road* leading from my parents’ house to my school. 🇺🇸 often can’t legally walk places! No footpaths in 🇺🇸 😞
