As the sun goes down on a lovely day, a Double-striped Pug rests on the kitchen window.

That must have been an amazing experience. Last year, we did limit ourselves to around 10 Buff Ermine caterpillars. Much easier to handle, though because they only ate the leaf surface we were forever in need of fresh apple leaves.

Here’s my record of Dewick’s Plusia. Quite a successful outcome I think, but not sure I’d want to start with that number again. Far too much wrangling and nettle gathering.

Got the order wrong there. To avoid confusion, should be left to right, top to bottom.

Dandelion
Daisy
Hairy Bittercress
Cherry Plum

At the end of a culvert, the surging water would seem to be inhabited by a thrashing creature.

I seem to remember @djhbutterflies.bsky.social saying that these tricky to spot creatures tend to be near the middle of the photo, but I can’t see a thing. Did you hear them rather than see them? 😆

What a pleasure to see this Grey Wagtail at the ford recently, taking snacks from the shallows. The river’s going at quite a pace with all the recent rain.

They all seem to have their own distinct phrases. Decades later, I can still remember a particular one from my younger days in my parents’ garden.
