Another silly twin study. Garbage.

Also, I think a lot of teams might be less likely to tank early until it’s clear they aren’t in contention.

Yes, but it solves half the problem and no teams will tank after the All Star break.

Base first 10 lottery picks on worst record before the All Star break.

It’s not like it’s actually going to happen.

Usually, you start with a fairly well-defined diagnosis, then it gets β€œstretched,” for a variety of reasons, such as pharma and reimbursement justification, social fads and hipster β€œexperts” staking a claim for personal aggrandizement, until the stretch count vastly exceeds the original diagnosis.

What are some examples of a long-term medication that does alter the human brain?

Coal miner turned shop owner and small farmer/Hell raiser.

Polygenicity and pleiotropy, while valid concepts, are often used as a diffuse explanation for failed genetic studies that were looking for more simplistic answers, without considering whether the assumption of a genetic basis for the trait is valid in the first place.

Times have changed. The new veggie burgers are much better, and might fool you if no one tipped you off.

It is not reasonable to find variants with deleterious effects unrelated to the trait in question and associate these variants to a socially dependent trait.

Haven’t seen it yet, but there is a respected person in the field coming out with a book this year on the genetics of β€œvice.” Look, the problem is that scientists crank out genetic studies that show little to nothing, hype the results, then this is picked up by the usual assortment of racists.

Wow, never knew that.

I think the larger problem is that they are untruthafiable.

How about β€œbeyond genetics”?

On the day I go back to Annandale.

They have hit the wall with GWAS. The problem is 30+ years of, β€œGenes found for {insert trait here},” mainstream media stories accumulating to create a perception that the field has validity (including for doctors).

Counterpoint (and I’m not defending MD’s, who rarely even read abstracts): Most read the press hype created by those performing the studies. At least that’s my experience with behavioral genetics. Scientists are exaggerating their results to give the study more attention and MD’s are lapping it up.
