As you consider the 7th Grade Course Selection form (which we hear is due soon!), remember that your student will no longer have access to music education in school unless you select Band, Orchestra, or Choir as a 7th grade course.

A 2016 analysis: 5th- through 12th-graders in music programs outperformed peers on every indicator: grade-point average, graduation rate, ACT scores, attendance, and discipline referrals.
A 2006 study: 4th- and 8th-graders in great music education programs scored 22% higher in English and 20% higher in math scores on standardized tests.
It enhances memory and retention, improves listening skills, boosts problem-solving abilities, and strengthens neural pathways between left and right hemispheres.
If your student is heading into 7th grade next year, music is no longer on their schedule unless you choose it to be (during the scheduling process the next few weeks)! Learning how to play an instrument or read music encourages cognitive, emotional, and social development in a number of ways.
