Good things are happening. Going freelance is a bit daunting, but it'll be better in the long run (I hope!)
Thinking about business cards, email address, etc. I will be registering a ๅไบบไบๆฅญ. I'm wondering if creating a business email will help with keeping everything tidy and separate๐ค
Ugh, that's rough!
After a decade exploring Tokyo, I know that the best photographs come from following your curiosity, paying attention, and finding the unexpected.
I lead photo walks built around exactly that. All levels, all cameras.
Link below, shares appreciated.
The job hunt has intensified. Unfortunately, I will not be continuing with my current company/position.
I'm looking for remote (even part-time) work as I build my freelance business.
Wish me luck...and send leads if you've got them!
Hopefully, the weather will be more cooperative the next time I go.
I also plan to bring a few different lenses with me on my next trip. While I enjoy using my 50mm prime lens, it can be difficult to capture close-up shots, particularly if there are crowds.
Because of the rain and the art installation (the Kyoto Nippon Festival, Feb. 1-May 24, 2026) in the plum garden, I did not stroll around the grounds as much as I would have liked. However, the Baikasai is an annual event that I plan on attending again in the coming years.
Kitano Tenman-gลซ (Kyoto) Baikasai (Plum Blossom Festival) tea ceremony. Two maiko in profile talking to each other. The maiko on the left is in a black kimono with colorful origami crane embroidery. She has a gold-toned obi. The maiko on the right is under a red umbrella, in a light pink kimono embroidered with flowers. She has a red-and-gold obi. There is a woman's back in the foreground and a man in the background taking photos.
Yesterday I went to Kitano Tenman-gลซ in Kyoto for the Baikasai (Plum Blossom Festival). It was an easy daytrip from Fukui. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't great - raining heavily at times.

Re-organised my print store into "collections". Adding more new images throughout this week. If you're interested in an original print by me on your wall. Or want to buy one for a gift, do take a look. And re-post and share this if you feel inclined. Every little helps. ๐โค๏ธ

Back to taking photos. Life as been busy, but as we end the year, the next chapter is starting to take shapeโฆ

Evening view of a stationary train in Tokyoโs Ueno Station. There are people waiting on both sides of the picture, mainly looking down at their smartphones.
I had to go to Tokyo for the day on Friday and decided to throw my camera in my bag. Returning home via Ueno Station, Tokyoโฆ
The cover of my next zine, titled "Hidden in a crowded bowl: a glimpse into the surprising depth of miso soup,"
Pre-sale has begun for the February Zine! This month, I'm writing about some of the stories hiding in your typical bowl of miso soup, a subject that's much deeper than it might appear at first glance.
Shares appreciated, as always.

A Hobonichi Cousin is open to the February 10th-16th weekly page spread. It is on a brown table with a pen case (with chapstick visible) in the upper left corner. The navy and pink pencil board is peaking out from under the left page.
Planning the coming weekโฆ
I look for the cheapest I can find and buy a few packs (since I'll use them up in just a few days). Unfortunately, I'm from a place famous for tomatoes, so I'm a bit of a tomato snob ๐๐ญ
I make salad at least 5 days a week, sometimes twice a dayโฆtomatoes are a must for me, so yeah, I feel those prices ๐ญ
Yes! And now that I know which section to search in the bookstore, it's easy to browse for more (but hold off on buying unless it is unique or has more/new info because ยฅยฅยฅ๐ ).
Finally got the post I had been working on up!
The Book That Started It All... emiinfukui.com/2025/02/08/t...
And I'm back! The past few weeks have been hectic, but I am settling into a new routine. I'm also looking forward to this week's New Year's holidayโฆ

I would love to be added if youโre still adding peopleโฆthanks!
I plan to curate a list of #photo people โ Not a starter pack, a list. This way, you can pin the list to your feed and follow #photographers in a custom feed on Bluesky. It should be a nice way to find new people when you log on. Drop me a line if you want me to add you. Please RT. Thank you!
Photo friends, I would love more artists to hear about @flakphoto.news โ Please tell your friends I'm showing #photography here on Bluesky now. Thank you! RT
Yellow and yellow with red edges carnations in a cut glass vase on a white table. In front of an off white wall, with tissues and a tv remote next to the vase.
The end of week two for these carnations. I like to buy them mostly closed, give them a fresh cut, and put them in water with a splash of bleach. I make sure there arenโt any leaves touching the water. They tend to last longer than other cut flowers and are a less expensive flower.
Hobonichi Cousin in a blue cover on a brown table. The December 2024 calendar page (2 page spread) in the 2025 Hobonichi Cousin. In the upper left there is a yellowish dragon sticker. There is also a cat with a peach outlined in gold diamond shaped sticker, and a brown and white cat curled up sleeping sticker along the top. At the bottom there is a circular sticker showing a red winter berry plant, a circular Christmas tree sticker (on the 25th), and three silver snowflake stickers (on the 21st). In blue pen on November 26th โ15:00 ็็ซโ is written. On November 28th in black pen โ้ๆฒขโ is written. On December 5th in blue pen โ15:30 ็็ซโ is written. Sorry, I try to plan in Japanese as a way to improve my language skills.
Nowhere near complete, but I like how December is coming along in my 2025 Hobonichi Cousin. I try to use it as a functional planner with some decorative and memory keeper elements.
It will continue to evolve as December progressesโฆ
You can start planning/doing a layout on the December 2024 calendarโฆ
The more you write, the better your handwriting will get!
Sure, there are differences between the cameras and lenses, but you can't go wrong either way. I went with Nikon because my first SLR was a Nikon, and I didn't want to replace all my lenses (or have to use an adaptor).
I have an iPhone 13 Pro. I still have months to pay for this one and won't replace it until it dies.
Canon is nice! I've heard from various sources that Canon and Nikon are basically the same at the end of the day.
