Which makes us safer? Killing people en masse or saving people en masse? Trick question. You already know the answer. The blowback in the US has already started and since USAID was gutted there's fewer means of repairing the deadly consequences of slaughter. Trump is burning the world down.
Commander Obvious Pete Hegseth says, completely without irony:
“The only thing prohibiting transit in the straits right now is Iran shooting at shipping.”
How's that for blinding insight?
My wife and I are fairly safe in terms of energy. We have rural hydroelectric, a heat pump, propane range and generator, and an electric car. But no one is safe from the energy needs of the supply chain, blowback from war and "no man is an island, entire of itself". We all pay, one way or another.
Bomb them back to the Stone Age? Where've I heard that before? How did that one work out?
This is an admission that he actually can't do any of that because if he could do that he probably would do that, he's that off-axis.
He needs to be sedated, strapped down, and STFU or he'll break the world.
"Beggars Banquet" if only for "Sympathy for the Devil" one of the Stones' greatest tracks.
Less like a Major, more like a majorette.
Can anyone think of a better way to incentivize the Russians to help the Iranian regime target American bases and to prolong the war? Am I taking crazy pills or are we actually rewarding our enemies for helping our enemies fire missiles and drones at us?
Let's make the distinction between rich and powerful. People like Karp are weak, not powerful. He's paranoid, misogynistic and he has to blame everyone else for his own character faults. And every day is a bad hair day with him.
It's apparently spreading. My wife won't have sex with me unless I produce two forms of valid ID. Says it's to prevent scrotum fraud.
The "SAVE America" bill actually does have the potential to save America. If this Congress gets nothing on the GOP agenda signed for the remainder of his term (or life) because he'll throw a big tantrump if "SAVE America" doesn't pass, it may be the cloud with a gold lining we've been hoping for.
Try as I might to blot it out, the words "thought experiment" and "Stephen Miller", brings to mind the words "eugenics" and "Josef Mengele".
Elon Musk was right about one thing. Come the apocalypse, electric cars will be the way to get around. Forget Mad Max scenarios--gasoline goes bad quickly and refining is a bitch. On the other hand, for the few left alive there are plenty of renewable sources for EVs. If you want to hit The Road.
delegate, and I've visited a number of Senate and House members on Capitol Hill lobbying for union causes, among other things. There are nuances to politics, and I've met GOP folks who were more receptive to some of our efforts than Dems. I don't think anyone is really a single issue candidate.
can be skewed. Sometimes someone votes in the majority so they can bring the vote up for reconsideration. There are certain things--abortion and trans rights--that will give me pause if a candidate doesn't support them. But I've been voting since I was at a state convention as a McGovern precinct ⏬
Not really. I start from the premise that all Dems are inherently better than the GOP. I imagine Fetterman's record is probably lots better than, say, Lisa Murkowski's. There aren't that many votes of consequence in either body and sometimes someone will vote to kill certain provisions, so ratings ⏬
I guess I should have taken that offer to be CEO of a multinational oil conglomerate. My mistake. I could be making a lot of money right now.
I used to be the president of a national UAW affiliated union, but I wouldn't vote for anyone based on their union rating, or NRA rating, or any other rating. I live in a district where my House rep is very pro-military. She also, far more often than not, votes progressive--that's my litmus test.
"Iran doesn't have to beat the U.S. military...All it has to beat is the bond market."
You know that old joke about not having to run faster than the bear? The US bond market's the bear. We're already projecting $1T paid in interest on debt this year. The war has made bond yields rise. That's bad.
Here's to having tough decisions. The better the candidates, the higher the interest in the race. Witness the Texas Senate Democratic primary. We should all be so lucky to face a dilemma like choosing between Crockett or Talarico.
Ukraine just spent the last two years bombing the shit out of Russian petroleum sites almost exclusively with drones, cutting deeply into energy supplies in Putinland. The Iranian Shahed drone is considered one of the best attack UAVs in the world. FFS, did nobody in the DoD put 2 and 2 together?
PA, next time have the Lamb.
They should probably say snakes are welcomed.
We have bases all over the Middle East, far from Venezuela. Send her there.
That was Iran's big mistake. They went for the nukes as a deterrent instead of asking Putin for an unredacted copy of the Epstein files.
And a plastic surgeon on speed dial.
Really? I thought the diaper changes would be the biggest point of contention.
Houston Chronicle headline "Oil price spike offers 'breath of fresh air' for Texas drillers"
People in the Middle East are breathing poisoned air in a sky choked with missiles. Fuck Houston. Fuck Texas.
If only the US had an ally with years of actual wartime experience fighting these Shahed drones who might be able to save us from having to use scarce interceptor missiles costing millions and instead allow us to use cheap interceptor drones costing thousands, saving both lives and money. If only.
Horrors that the Democratic party will have to be WHAT IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN before Schumer and Jeffries.
Meanwhile a bunch of his advisors have move to military bases for safety. He thinks his MAGA is too stupid to figure it out and he may be right.
