Immunologist at the Hamburg Center for Translational Immunology, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf in Hamburg, Germany. Does Nanobody Discovery, interested in neuroinflammation and purinergic signalling. My opinion are my own.
We’re excited to introduce the new Hamburg #HertieNetwork fellows for the 3rd funding period: @felixfischbach.bsky.social, Märit Jensen, @brissiek.bsky.social & @janasonner.bsky.social. Looking forward to inspiring projects, discussions & collaboration across sites! #UKEHamburg #HertieStiftung

To conclude: a huge thank you to my fantastic team and to everyone who contributed to this project. Special thanks for support go to Florian Schmidt from the Nanobody Core Facility at the UK Bonn! Finally, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to our funder, the T. von Zastrow Foundation.
Over the summer, we were able to launch our first immunization campaigns and completed this intensive setup and implementation phase right on schedule by early December. In early 2026, “the big search” for the top clones against our target antigens will begin!
a stable and pasture, as well as establishing immunization protocols (protein, cDNA via gene gun). In parallel, a dedicated sample-processing container was installed, allowing us to process blood samples at the end of the immunization phase on site – from PBMC isolation all the way to cDNA synthesis
Last year, my group launched a project funded by the T. von Zastrow Foundation that truly took all of us into new territory: the establishment of our own #Nanobody Discovery Platform. We genuinely started from scratch – including setting up our own alpaca facility with five female alpacas…
Guys, it is great what you are doing! But please: check your AI generated images, e.g three finger kid on the left
Yesterday, our first immunization campaign finished. We started late (and finished at 2:00 am 🤯) but everything went well. Lots of PBMCs and good RNA yield 🥳. Big thx to our campaign front runners Gaby 🦙 and Justy 🦙
What happened to the left hand of the poor girl on the very right? 😉
Fantastic study by Michelle Jäckstein and Jörg Heeren of #SFB1328. Only the inhibition of both - #P2X7 and #P2X4 - protects from BAT inflammation!!! It was a pleasure to collaborate! Hope this inspires others to check P2X4/P2X7 double inhibition in their models! www.embopress.org/doi/full/10....
If only one device is messed up and pings the wrong PW your ACC is blocked and you have to run to the IT department to unlock it and start over again => the week of horror
Been there…we have the “two weeks of horror” when we have to change or work PW (twice a year). If you do not manage to do it properly on all your devices you are doomed. Strategy: switch off all affected devices (6 in total in my case) and sequentially restart them with the new PW… so I feel you!
Hey #IUIS2025 participants, check out our poster on Wednesday, August 20, 12:15 - 13:45 | Poster Area (Hall X5) #neuroimmunology. We brought data from our new "BrEndO" mouse model for cerebral vasculitis #CD8 #Tcells #immunology

Pretty certain running a lab is mostly about making signs to avoid inconveniences & minor catastrophes. 😊
Today, our blood sample preparation container arrived. Still needs to be filled with equipment 😊 then we are ready for the first blood samples in October #nanobodies #vhh #antibodies #immunology

What if instead of analyzing 4-6 pathology markers you could check >100 in the *same* sample?

It’s hard being a scientist these days and I’ve captured that indescribable feeling that we are all facing in a new word!!

Today, we startet our first #nanobody discovery campaign by immunizing two of our alpacas, one by s.c. protein injection and one by gene gun. Crossing our fingers for a good HcAb response 🤞🏻💪🏻
A warm welcome to our newest #nanobody discovery team member! “Occi” arrived this weekend and smothly joined the herd. Soon, she will help us generating new #nanobodies against antigen targets used in research and/or for medical application
Should I check this #alpaca for #nanobodies conferring resistance to electric shock? … or should I first check the electric fence energiser 😆 #vhh #antibody
Our alpaca mares have their summer coat since yesterday. Ethics are approved, antigen production is ongoing, and we hope to start the first round of immunization in July. Super excited!!! 🦙🧬🔬👨🔬
What does a science PhD really teach you? The ability to say “I don’t know, but I can find out.”

Every 10 seconds vaccination saves a life. Immunization for all is humanly possible.
Vaccines have saved 154 million lives in the past 50 years. A reminder of what is #HumanlyPossible. Science saves lives.

It is always a pleasure to get young students enthusiastic about science! A few days ago we had a whole class in our department, showcasing #Nanobody research. What can I say - it was fun! Hope to see some of you around on campus some time! #sfb1328
I am happy to report that our chapter on "Flow Cytometric Analysis of Mouse Brain CD8+ T Cell Activation" is out now! It is part of a book on "T cell activation" curated and edited by Björn-Philipp Diercks of #sfb1328
