Comus by John Milton was written in 1634 it’ll give you so much insight into a lot of the visuals we see during the ball and also legends of carnival in general
I’m not exactly sure but in the story of comus he turns regular people into beasts so I’m wondering if it’s just a representation of man before he’s turned. As for the Egyptian it certainly looks like a cowl of some kind but it could just be a hat of the day
