But that's not important right now... OSS DB (Postgres) person by day, into science and SciFi at night. Following global events out of necessity. Atheist. (I block any bot, troll, shill, antivaxxer, trumper and other reality denier following me.)

I think every national library around the world could use this, as well as many museums holding large caches of archival data. Now wondering how to get that paper to people who might be able to use it.

We're going to find out but if you put faith in government officials doing the right thing over public opinion influenced by falling munitions, I have a few bridges to sell you might be interested in.

If the goal is to make every country in the middle East, including Turkey, Azerbeidzjan and Oman and all Kurds everywhere into their mortal enemy then yes, those Iranian commanders should carry on as they have by all means. I thought earlier Iran could wait this out. Now they've signed their fate.

okay bluesky give me interesting accommodation options in Rotterdam in May.

For reasons i cannot contractually say right now but will be fun.

Two people. Separate rooms. Fun but odd and well connected for transport is the goal.

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Tuig.

You will figure it out. Your core values are strong and although the world is turbulent, tons of people are rooting for you. May the weights guide your thoughts so that you can map what is important to you onto a way of life that helps you and those around you that are important to you.

You should've opened with that.

You're so hot, you changed local climate?

My original point is rather: I expect that those parties will first try to solve the issue by trying making ships "impervious" and that will cause a big arms race. The mess in Iran will certainly take quite a while to resolve in some way.

04.03.2026 14:49 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Ah then we're still on the same page because I don't believe regime change can happen without more direct intervention. So the question becomes how long it will take all the needed parties to acknowledge this and act on it. Could be a while.

Are you making an argument for the absolute necessity for (Iranian) regime change at any cost?

04.03.2026 13:15 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

That seems both uneconomical and counterproductive. Now that Ukraine is making strides in this type of warfare against the Russian hydrocarbon fleet, development of counter measures will pick up, I'm sure. The issue is the length of the timeline to get to something workable and cheap enough.

04.03.2026 12:53 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Second ship hit in the Mediterranean sea must mean it will be too great a risk to use for the shadow fleet or any ship Ukraine might target. Together with the blocking of the Hormuz straight, that is a lot of extra miles for a lot of hydrocarbons. Very nice!

Plausible. Now I'm curious how fast that threat will be tackled too, given the economic impact and global interests.

Once the rocket launchers have been dispatched, the navy and airforce are gone, what other hardware to project power outside their borders does Iran have left?

Trump wants to end birthright citizenship. Where do other countries stand? The US has historically given automatic citizenship to anyone born in the country, but this principle is not the norm globally.

Yeah, the Internet bubble must surely feel like it should be measured in Mya for all the youngsters here, but it's also still very relevant to the current situation with AI ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

After the Bitcoin caused draught of GPUs, I can only say:

But the photo above is not of damage to the U.S. embassy buildings. Very misleading.

The article also doesn't specify what damage was done to the compound, only that there was a minor fire.

Disappointing click bait. No need to read.

So just another 189000 to go?

Shouldn't take that long. Compared to the "SMO", perhaps.

Yeah, those are nice but don't forget about the Permian-Triassic extinction (252Mya), the Bubonic Plague 1347-1351 or the Mongol conquests CA 13th century...

Yeah, I turned my list of ways human civilization could end, ordered by likelihood, into a bingo card and am now crossing all items off on by one.

It really is the darkest of realistic timelines and Putin and the global oligarchs hand picked it.

"ethische" hacker.

I still would like to be able to block posts that link to specific websites instead of using blocklists for that. Disinformation sites like CNN/WaPo/NYT should not get my eyeballs' time.
