When I had a sermon coming up in my field work parish during seminary in the early 1970s, I would sit at my desk on Monday morning with a yellow pad of paper and write out the readings in longhand. There was something about the tactile connection with the words.

I am truly ashamed of the country to which I used to swear my allegiance.
I never ever say "I gotta". I know it's a slurring of "I've got to."
I'm more likely to say "I hafta". (I have to.)
The first example leads some people to imagine a new verb: to got.

And now the Vice President of the United States is leading another so-called dignified transfer of a corpse. You can see on his face that he knows he's a hypocrite. (Trump doesn't even know the meaning of hypocrisy.
I hate the term "dignified transfer". Nothing with that despicable man in his white baseball cap can be called "dignified".

If any old Episcopalian like me needs to sit with a dying friend, I recommend this, which I've done many times with both parishioners and other friends: Sit with them in silence and read the Psalms from the Rite I Burial. (p. 471). It takes about half an hour. They'll know God's presence.
