Malta is between Italy & N. Africa, & it's language originated from a Sicilian-Arabic dialect that developed when the island of Sicily was an Emirate under Islamic rule (~10th century), thus a mash-up of Italian & Arabic. A majority of residents today can speak Maltese, English, & Italian

For example: 24.49 rounds down to 24; 25.50 rounds up to 26, which looks like a 2% difference, but before rounding the difference was actually only 1.01%

OK. But if overall data is weighted based on all categories combined (age + race +, etc), but individ crosstabs are only weighted based on that one category (e.g. gender alone), you might see small differences. They also round up/down, so what looks like a 2% diff might only be 1% w/o rounding

Maybe the gender question was optional for respondents, so the breakdown of data for men vs women could only include responses from a (smaller) subset who specified their gender. But when overall results are shown, those percentages included responses from "gender not specified"

I assume the 2nd part of your comment is referring to Buttigieg, right? Just clarifying, bc your 1st part refers to Newsom and uses "he" -- but your 2nd part also uses "he/him/his" without specifying you're now (presumably) referring to Pete and no longer talking about Newsom ๐

He's already a very public & prominent figure, & even if he himself wasn't running, he'd be out campaigning for other Dems. Of course, I fear for his safety, but I disagree that the extremists will magically change their attitudes post-trump. So waiting it out just seems like wasted time

That article is from 2022. It's disgusting, but there's a long history of extremists saying basically the same thing about abortion providers, Muslims, Jews, etc. Hardcore MAGA extremists sometimes also advocate this for Democrats in general. Should we ALL hide under a rock until "temps come down"?

As the Sec. of Transportation during that time, Buttigieg wasn't the one responsible for tax policy, nor was he a Congressional elected official. Why are you calling him out for something he had no control over?

Today proves that Republicans were serious about one promise: to cut taxes for the wealthy. All the rest was bullshit.

Many of the 1/3 Dems are more moderate/centrist than far left, but I wouldn't say conservative. Just trying to counter your original suggestion that Pete Buttigieg was "riskier" to run in the POTUS spot (as opposed to VP). He does well w/ everyone except far left & far right, which aren't majorities

American voters (of which I am one) are split into thirds, with ~1/3 Dem, ~1/3 Independent (could go either way), ~1/3 GOP. Global *media* might portray the US as "majority radically conservative" but that's false, & folks who don't bother to vote bc of apathy aren't typically radical conservatives

I didn't say the US was "majority progressive" -- we're not all one extreme or the other. The majority of Americans are either center-left, centrist, or center-right. Unfortunately, it's the two far extremes who are the loudest, but that doesn't mean they're the majority

It's inaccurate to assume the US is "50% hyper-conservative" just bc Trump won ~50% of the votes -- MILLIONS of registered voters did NOT vote, likely bc of apathy for the choice of candidates. Many of those folks are liberal or centrist & could be motivated to vote for a better candidate like Pete

In both 2024 with Kamala and 2016 with Hillary, the main issues working against them weren't their race or gender. It was the candidates, themselves, their political baggage, lack of broad appeal, etc. They garnered more apathy than excitement from voters (I voted for both of them, but many didn't)

The voting public actually came very close to putting Harris in office, despite her extremely truncated amount of time to campaign AND the fact that she was a flawed & not terribly popular candidate. Now imagine a much better, more popular candidate like Pete, with almost 4 years to campaign!

We simply need a popular, galvanizing candidate, regardless of identity, and Pete could absolutely do it. He draws interest from right, left, and center, and across the age spectrum. He has 4 years to make his case, and unlike in 2020, way more people know who he is now

Identity wasn't the main issue -- keep in mind she BARELY lost in terms of popular vote, not only overall, but also in the swing states. She was not the best candidate, Biden handed it off to her way too late, and too many apathetic voters either stayed home or voted 3rd party

I've noticed an uptick in rehashed 2020 hate (even here) towards Pete from the far left Bernie wing, esp in the past few days, presumably bc of a bunch of recent polls like this showing Pete consistently in the top 3 (w/ Harris) or at the top (w/o Harris). Feeling threatened, I guess ๐

The head of our countryโs government is in the early stages of consolidating total power. We must of course reject this, but that is not enough. We have to respond by creating a different and better kind of American politics than we have seen before.

Note that this news interview is from a year ago (3-31-2024), not from today. It's been a year since the bridge collapse and some news outlets are re-sharing stories from then, and giving updates as to where things stand now, a year later

Wow. Why are you attacking me over my simple misunderstanding? Jeesh. And btw, Pete was NEVER a Rep, so he couldn't "go back to being a Rep" Not gonna engage you anymore if this is how you treat a fellow liberal who was definitely NOT attacking you in any way. Have a nice life.

Your post tagged Pete, said "Dems needs a contender to run against Spartz" (an Indiana rep) & "Your town.. Sec Pete" -- sorry if I incorrectly assumed you thought he still lived in Indiana. A lot of people still think that & you appeared to be asking him to challenge Spartz ๐คทโโ๏ธ

Pete Buttigieg is no longer a resident of Indiana. He and his family moved to Traverse City, Michigan over 2 years ago to be closer to Chasten's family (they help out a lot with the kids)
