UW study shows possible connection between trauma and long COVID
Some people with long COVID may experience certain symptoms โ sudden blood pressure spikes or nausea, for instance โ due to stress or trauma.
I was on NPR last week talking about a new publication that is really important to me - part of our larger effort to change the way we think and talk about both mental and physical health, and how they relate to each other, after stress and trauma.

If our "environmental protection" frameworks can stop an affordable housing project but can't stop a detention center or a highway expansion we really need to start talk about ripping things up root and branch.

My latest for @truthout.org is an interview w/ @jeannetheoharis.bsky.social on her new book, โKing Of The North: Martin Luther Kingโs Life of Struggle Outside the South.โ
She explains MLKโs challenge to structural racism & Coretta Scott Kingโs visionary leadership that shaped King & the movement.

In 2025, Educators Didnโt Just Endure Repression. They Built Resistance.
The right wants the teaching of history to no longer indict power or inspire resistance. But our side wonโt submit.
I wrote a new piece for @truthout.org looking back at 2025 โ a year when educators didnโt just endure repression, they built resistance. โ๐ฝ๐
Education has never been neutralโIt either liberates or subjugates.
Here are the stories of those who resisted subjugation.

My pal is doing a Halloween fundraiser for our school's families who rely on SNAP. We'll put fliers on our doors and around the neighborhood. Maybe you want to do the same for your local community? Feel free to use the cute canva she put together (linked, editable) ๐ www.canva.com/design/DAG3H...

Coming up on 20 years of Link in the Rainier Valley. A Sound Transit employee told my neighbors and me that people crash into the light rail because itโs new and unfamiliar. Education wonโt work. We should probably stop playing with tech gadgets and fix it.

I also want to note that one of the things that make this transit center so inhospitable is surely the crossing across Rainier but I find that crossing from the east even more treacherous. SO needs fixing.

My family uses air quotes when referring to the Mount Baker "transit center" because it seems like such an afterthought for actual riders. Here's my kid at the "transit center" en route to her soccer game on Sunday. City leaders, read @nondriver.bsky.social's brilliant piece and improve this area!

A group of twenty four people stand behind a large orange and purple banner that reads โWA WFP.โ The crowd holds signs supporting Katie Wilson and Eddie Lin.
A group of 10 people hold clipboards and campaign literature before a canvas on a sunny day in a park.

Seattle's Mayor Harrell Holds Back Transit, Again
Doubles down on do-nothingism
Seattle's Mayor Harrell holds back transit (again!) doubles down on do-nothingism.
This guy is nonstop when it comes to stopping good things from happening.
Harrell has always hampered good government outcomes and he's not about to quit now. Fire him!

One of the things I have been most wrong about is that I thought once the impacts of climate change manifest we would see bold climate action, especially in scientifically literate progressive cities. Instead we get glossy vision documents, plans, and self congratulation while doing too little.

Dear @wadems.org: It is ridiculous that we don't have free school meals for all in our state. These are the standards used to determine eligibility. In this state, many well above these levels struggle. With the federal government cutting many benefits, these meals become even more important.

If weโre going to rely as a city on public transportation to get our kids to school, as many cities do, we need to build routes and headways with schools in mind, not just downtown commuters.
