the emphasis on "order then chaos then order again" also seems to be doing some rhetorical work here
Needs to be stated: this isn't how it works.
Things in the academic world (and elsewhere) are pretty grim currently. I wanted to write something a bit more positive, and personal, about what an academic field can be. Partially inspired by a moment of existential terror when I opened a journal and didn't recognize any of the names. #medievalsky
There is so much great looking stuff, it is both a blessing and a curse that I find all periods of history fascinating

They are probably more left-leaning but they do have that sort of anti-government streak too
I used to follow them a bit more in the early 2010s but haven't been keeping up much. I think I've seen odd things here and there but they are mostly anti-war and a sort of open-tech kind of group. At least from what I remember

Red States: Only teach approved christian nationalist content
Blue States: Teach anything you like as long as you hire an adjunct to do it cause you ain't getting faculty lines in the humanities lol

Was reminded that exactly one year ago today I submitted my PhD dissertation. In a lot of ways it still feels weird to think of myself not as a student but as a full-fledged historianβ’
Important book for #medievalsky
Its aged very badly, I basically won't rewatch it because it can exist as a piece of nostalgia
tbf I remember shockingly little of the movie besides Yaphet Kotto, but when the intro hits, it hits
Agreed the Moore bonds probably not my favorite, but I love Live and Let Die more than I should
