“For all we know, we could be in the middle of Keir Starmer’s finest hour”.
Starmer’s critics say he is imperiling the UK’s special relationship with the US...
But is it Donald Trump who's doing the damage?

That’s amazing.
I listened to that “Six of the Best” CD over and over again as a teen. I found it hard to believe their partnership had ended so recently as it all sounded so chummy and affable. I wondered for a long time if it was recorded before, but this confirms it wasn’t.
Ha! It seemed to do well enough but there was always an undercurrent of angry Doctor Who fans saying “WHY NOT JUST MAKE DOCTOR WHO”
I remember early edit of the Saturday night lineup promo had this titled “Time Traveller”, somewhat missing the point
🤣
Hey they’ve prepared this stuff, shame to see an 8-page think piece on the rise of the Greens go to waste!
Looking forward to The Observer having to report some actual news tomorrow
Thanks…I wanted to write it too!
If you’ve managed not to read it yet and are up for a deep dive: jonabuft.blogspot.com/2022/09/they...
I’ve bored myself going on about this show, which I’m strangely fascinated with, but this was a good watch. Despite its many well-documented (largely by me) flaws it’s amazing how much of Parallel 9 so very nearly succeeds, particularly in that first year with so much plot baggage and expectation.
Very much in my wheelhouse. But if you want yet more, @jonabuft.bsky.social has written the definitive guide to the show in its myriad forms.
I remember watching that very BP and it was fairly innocuous…
Don’t think I’ve seen RE on screen since.
I’m way behind on #totp but your reminder that B*Witched’s Blame It On The Weatherman was inadvertently responsible for kicking off a HR disaster at the BBC weather centre… www.theguardian.com/uk/1999/nov/...
Seems an odd way to do it, but maybe my expectations of revamps have been shaped by the 90s when it happened every few years. The Observer changed their logo end of last year and the old one is still printed on some of the sections each week…
New look, yay! Masthead harks back to the glory days - fab. Listings inside same design as since what, 2010? Which when you think about the changes in TV viewing since then is less good.
It had Chloe Annett in the shower, I was easily pleased
Hit me Paul Shane one more time
Slightly baffled by the ill-fitting “BAM BAM BAM BAM” welded on the end of the live version of It’s Not Right by Whitney…what were they thinking? #totp
In the TOTP timeline I am 15 and currently logging on excitedly to see what everyone thought of the new series of Red Dwarf, and being completely baffled by some of the vitriol…
No and this is the issue. Whatever their ambitions, it doesn’t stack up when you put them side by side.
Wow! Love the headline
(I did enquire what the loyalty discount mentioned is…there was no reply)
The Observer app costs £15.99 a month. It’s unclear whether it lets you do something as unfashionable as actually read the paper. Given the Guardian never really built up the Obs name outside of Sunday print, that is what people associate it with, so it could be an uphill struggle for Tortoise.
It looks as though any Sunday print subscribers have been moved over, but if you had a digital sub or got Editions through a print sub to another day, that’s it.
Guardian Editions app announces end of Observer support from 25th Jan
Speaking of the Guardian, looks like the Observer ties are being severed in the Editions app (which basically allows you to read the paper as a big PDF on tablet or phone) after this Sunday. I love the “hostage message” vibes from this
Guardian today. Whisper it…but has the “as I was saying” myth finally been put to bed?
Yep. Ended up down a Wikipedia rabbit hole with that too!
Madness Thing by Leilani has been tucked away in a corner of my brain, unheard for 27 years, but somehow ready for complete recall the moment it was repeated on #totp last night. #whenyourboyfriendcomeshomeearlytofindyousuckingonacurlywurly
I’m amused by the simultaneous “wow it’s ten years ago let’s reach into the vaults” and the fact everyone still has the photos in their phones suggests it’s perhaps not the nostalgia trip it once would have been…
