This one is a collaboration between 3D department (Johanna Guillaume, Mikkel Battefeld) and 2D artists (Aurore Lopez, Akai Fuminao)

It's sometimes possible to tell who painted what background when you know the artist's quirks.
We work more and more with 3D layouts so there's less and less "2D line work" for the backgrounds (+the line art is supposed to be drawn by the animator). But I did a bit of draw over on a few cuts

It can be between one day (or less) to one week (or more) depending on the complexity of the background
I think it’s the way they do the credits usually. As a background director in Japan you are supposed to paint a lot of bg references (that don’t necessarily appear on screen) and check/correct all the bgs that appear on screen. Maybe that’s why they credit bg directors in a different way
